Betta Fish Fin Rot

My daughter bought a Betta fish from Walmart. I guilted her into the bright blue one with a tattered tail and nasty, gross water. I knew a tattered tail could mean a sick fish so I looked it up. He has black spots all over his tail and fin. What do I give him for this?

I know! I shouldn't have bought one at all from Walmart. But he would have died there in nasty water and nobody would have bought him!

you can buy stuff for fin rot in pet stores..just add towater,,keep him separated from any other fish, as it can spread..

There seems to be lots of products out there but which one is the best one?

Maybe you can PM W.Oliver. I believe he owns a garden pond/aquarium type store. Sorry I don't remember exactly, but I know it was fish related. Perhaps he could offer some advice.

having kept aquarium in the past there is a product called Fin Rot , and there are products for Ich ,

Oh sorry. Well, You sound a lot like me. I'd be a sucker for the poor sickly fish in the dirty water too. I bought some feeder fish from PetSmart last spring and set them free in my garden pond. I think some of them may have actually become "feeder" fish anyway - to the wildlife, but at least they had a good life up until then. SIGH!

Do I need to get both? The edges of his fins are black and he has black spots on them. And aquarium salt as well?

I won't! lol I'm going to try to get a picture of him. He's so pretty, really dark blue...just tattered and torn up fins. His water was so disgusting.
