Default Valentine's Day - Non Dog

Hi All,

As some of you know I write for a 100% free ezine and sometimes seek your opinions for my articles.

I'm writing a series of articles about Valentine's Day and would love to hear what you have to say. If you reply I will use your words but not your name.

1-Are you male or female?

2-Are you married?

2-Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?

3-If so, what does the typical celebration entail?

4-If not, why?

Thanks to all who choose to participate...

1-Are you male or female? Female

2-Are you married? Yes

2-Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Sort of...

3-If so, what does the typical celebration entail? We usually just give eachother a small gift. I might get him some twizzlers and he may buy me some skittles. When we were first together I told him specifically that I wanted roses delivered to my work and he obliged. Then after a few years I matured and realized I wanted him to do this for what it represents instead of appreciating how he says "I love you" everyday which is personal and subtle.

4-If not, why?

Thanks to all who choose to participate...

1-Are you male or female? Female

2-Are you married? Yes...28 years

2-Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? Nope

3-If so, what does the typical celebration entail? N/A

4-If not, why? My birthday is in early February, so usually it has some sort of Valentine's Day theme...but really, it's because I have never liked Valentine's Day. In school it was always a day for kids to be covertly mean to lesser liked or less popular kids. I just never enjoyed it as a kid, so as an adult, I'm sort of not interested in supporting it. (I used to give my kids Valentine's day candy...but that's as far as it went). I'm more of a 4th of July celebrater!

1-Are you male or female?
Female

2-Are you married?
No

2-Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Not usually

3-If so, what does the typical celebration entail?
When I have it hasn't really amounted to much. I've been given some flowers and that's pretty much it.

4-If not, why?
It just seems a bit odd to me (the idea of everyone showing their love for one another on the same day), and perhaps in many cases a bit superficial.

Funny story about valentines day though. When I was with my last boyfriend there was a period of about 6 months where it was long distance (about 11 hours). During this time Valentines day rolls around. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't even remember it. However, he sent me flowers. So I felt bad, but we hadn't really been dating that long, so I went out to Walmart to try and find a card. I then proceeded to call my best friend and was like, "All these frickin' cards say I love you all over them!" Best friend, "Yes....it's Valentine's Day....I think that's generally the point..." Me, "But I don't love him; I just feel guilty because he got me something and I didn't even remember it was valentines day!" Needless to say it took me quite some time to find a valentine's day card that didn't say I love you. lol! Next time I'm just going to be upfront and explain that I don't like the idea of proving you love each other just because it's valentine's day, so don't waste your money.

Thank you so much for replying. It is so interesting you mention the school dynamic. I was one of the less popular kids so V-Day sucked then. And it also sucked the years I was single. Maybe, I wanted my husband to send those flowers to say "I'm not lesser." I don't know. But your reply has provoked my thoughts and will provoke readers. Thank you.

3-If so, what does the typical celebration entail? I roll over, tell him happy Valentine's Day, and if I'm lucky we go back to sleep.

4-If not, why? It's just kind of a silly holiday to get worked up over. I think one nice thing about it is that it reminds you to take a moment and feel love and appreciation for your partner, but quite frankly this is something a good couple does anyway. Valentine's Day seems more suited to new couples, or soon to be couples, whose relationships are not yet defined and thus somewhat uncertain. It's a nice way to solidify how you feel towards each other. Us long time married folks don't really need to do that anymore. But it is nice to get that extra hug or kiss, or have an excuse to open a bottle of wine when you normally wouldn't. And the chocolate... One cannot forget the chocolate.

4-If not, why? My birthday is the day before so I celebrate that instead and when I am with someone, it's usually a combined thing.
