I met Michelle Kwan when I came to Dallas for the Nationals, I felt like a complete idiot because I couldn't move nor talk. I just stood there, looking at her.

Well, let's see.
Bumped into Ted Kennedy and John Kerry picking up lunch on Beacon Hill. Steven Wright was in Starbucks once, again on Beacon Hill. Steve Martin, Goldie Hawn, Jeff Bridges .... others while making movies in Boston. When John Wayne was preparing for the movie In Harm's Way he rode on our aircraft carrier from San Diego to Hawaii to study the admiral I worked for... and since I was the Admiral's Marine guard I guided him from place to place on the ship. One of the admirals was friends with Al Jones, Jack Jones's father. Al Jones goes waaaaaaaaaay back and did a few musical movies. Al Jones was not the nicest guy, had a whopper ego. My son knows Norah Jones. Her ex-boyfriend/bass player was in his first band after they graduated from Berklee. My son has played with and for many stars like Sting, Elvis Costello, Aretha, many more. He played one of the inaugural balls with Sting and others. He has played on Letterman and all those night time shows .... Today... and the morning shows. and on and on... including the Grand Ole Opry and the Tokyo jazz festival. I met Alice Cooper at a Detroit Tigers game a few years ago. He threw out the first pitch.

I've seen U2 a gazillion times so I've met Bono three times and Larry (the drummer) once. Lance Armstrong said "hi" to me. I've also had a picture taken with Mary Lou Retton (gymnast). I've had the pleasure of hearing Ayaan Hirsi Ali, Desmond Tutu, and Paul Rusesabagina speak (all different events) but didn't get to meet any of them.

Guiding John Wayne, how very cool!
Here's mine: Most of these people I've talked to, some many times. A few I've only been within a few feet of or something. Tried for a bit of order here but it's not that easy, and I'm sure I missed some. Debbie Myer/Mark Spitz (Olympic Gold Medalists) "Dated" guys on the same swim team... Marv Hubbard (tried on his Super Bowl Ring!) Will Sampson (Were blood brother/sis!) Saul Zaentz Country Joe McDonald Creedence members Harvey Fuqua (Harvey and the Moonglows, a very sweet man) Tippi Hedren (we "did lunch" more than once, an angel) Michael Douglas/Brenda Vaccaro Hung out with the Dead backstage many times. Bill Graham (told me I had beautiful hair backstage one time) (And sent a bodyguard over at a Christmas party saying Bill wanted to dance with me... I was a snot and said "Well then he can ask me himself... so I never danced with him!) Lee Grant (no comment) George Lucas/Steven Spielberg Dennis Hopper Mel Brooks (talked to his wife Anne on the phone many times) Sean Penn (gave him a disposable lighter and got a nice thank you!) Harrison Ford Bob De Niro/Willie Nelson (spoke with on phone, if Willie hasn't changed his phone number over the years, I still have it!!) Jeff Bridges (taught him a "champagne trick" at a wrap party one time, where you put your finger in the glass, bubbles go down and they can fill it up more... he loved THAT!!) Jack Nicholson ("makes me nervous to walk into a room without any ashtrays") Raquel Welch Mic Jagger Sir Paul/Linda (They walked by me... but I didn't actually "see" them because all employees had been instructed to "avert" our glance!) (screened Captain EO for him, smiled and thanked me) Matt/Amy Roloff at company picnic (He was an Ewok) Robin Williams (all funny ALL the time) Danny Glover (had to take his shirt off at one point, mic was picking up too much "rustle") Robert Redford (sigh, one FINE hunk of manflesh!) Arnold Schwarzenegger Ron Howard Janeane Garofalo And most recently, and not as well known to most of you... Dennis Reis (horse trainer) |
