Default Question about my website - Non Dog

Hi All, I have a question about my business website and appreciate any answers.

I currently run a business [which I will not publicize] with a partner through a website built in wordpress. The web developer has recently decided he is no longer in the business and is not available to us for questions and I have not yet found a replacement.

I'd like to split from my partner and take part of the business with me and give her the other half. Is their a way to split a website? I'm not soliciting free web advice. I just want to know if there is a way and if there is I will know it is an option for me.

I really hope someone can help me.

Split it...how? Legal possession? Divvy up clientele? Have two businesses on the same domain? Sharing webhosting?

First of all thanks for the reply. Anyway, we spent a few thousand dollars to build the site. There are multiple pages. Can the website be split up? Like pulled apart. I'll get my own host and she can get hers? I'll let her keep the domain but I don't want to lose all of the work we put into building the site.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. I'm not savy in wordpress.

Oh, I gotcha. You're asking if technically, you can keep the information contained within as well as the format/layout etc? Sure. There's no reason that you can't both have the exact same site (less any discrepancies between businesses) on two different domains. All of the files should be contained within folders that have been uploaded to your host. I think it would be worth your time to find someone who can do a site migration for you - it's not difficult and you shouldn't have to spend much money.

True but since it's a Wordpress site it will be far more complicated than just copying over files like HTML or CSS and then uploading a copy to a new domain. There will be the MySQL database to deal with. I use a few sites that run off MySQL databases but really don't know much about them so maybe it's easier than I'm thinking.

I definitely wouldn't recommend she try it herself if she doesn't have any development savvy, but it won't take someone familiar with wordpress much time/effort to migrate. If she tries a venue like elance, guru, or dice, she should be able to get it done for relatively little money.

Or, you simply go into the profile, download the entire blog (including the layout), go into a new blog and upload it. All the posts, the layout and the comments will be transferred. Then you go in manually and delete all the posts and sites you don't want or need.
