For small but not small definitely PyrSheps (although mine is pushing the size limit for "small" LOL). The most athletic, sure footed, crazy little dogs! Mine's not quite a year old and I'm totally smitten with him. He's such a joyful, willing dog and so much fun to work with.

Our Corgi is pretty fun too. Very crazy and intense. Super fast in agility but a bit...frantic LOL

I also like some of the small sport mixes bred for Flyball.

For really small, I love Papillons. Poms are pretty cool too. I like IGs a lot too. And Mini Doxies I've met some pretty nice little Poodles and Chihuahuas too.

I'm not really sure. I have never owned a small breed purebred dog. I've had small breed mixes though.

I have a JRT/Rat/Schnauzer mix, hes 17lbs of go go go go go, but as he has got older he has calmed down alot.

I like most terriers, corgis, poms...I'll have to think on it some more.

I like the hounds, beagles and bassets although I'm not sure they are "small" dogs, they are about as small as I could go. I always say I'm too freakin tall to have a small breed and dh would look ridiculous walking a small dog down the street.
However, my one gf is over 6', and stands out in a crowd with her platinum blond short cropped hair, her and her husband breed rotts and have a training club and field, (she's stateside, we don't get together too often) anyways she ended up taking back a rott she sold who was resold without her knowledge and in the process also took the couple's true Heinz 57 mixed breed small thing. It actually looks like a gremlin, I laugh ever time she posts a pic. She has 3 boys and they would rather walk "Tiny" than the rotts LOL. She's the gf who sent me a Christmas card with a rott on the sleeve, Santa wearing the sleeve and antlers on the rott. She used glue dots one would use for gift baskets on the rott to hold the antlers on - I was like how many glue dots did it take? I had a side gift basket biz at one time, they hold, but not perfectly. She said it took 25 takes to get one and photoshop had to help a bit

Her summer do (she dances anytime I put music on (without being prompted))

And a couple of random shots. One of the things I love about this breed is they aren't yappy like most of the toy breeds.

Okay, that dancing photo is the cutest thing I have ever seen!! LOL!!

I like Shi Tzu.

Actually, I can't stand a majority of Poms I meet. I lucked out with Ozzy. (Or maybe it's because I treat him like a dog and not an infant). My mom's friend has a Pom and she's fat, snappy, yippy, etc.

This right here - it's the same for me and my Chihuahua, Isabel. The only time she was ever carried into a pet store and not on a leash was the day I got her and had to get a few supplies for her (she hadn't completed her last two rounds of puppy shots, so of course I wouldn't put her on the floor). She goes on walks like my big dogs, and does the things that big dogs do.

I hate the small dog stereotypes when it comes to certain toy breeds. It's frustrating. I often get asked if Isabel is something other than a Chihuahua, because, as I have been told by other 'experts,' "Chihuahuas just don't act like that. They're ankle-biting little yappers."

But to be honest, if we are talking about 'small' dogs (not necessarily just toy breeds) then I'd probably say that the Boston Terrier, Cocker Spaniel (even though that's hovering towards small/medium - ours was always about 25lbs, though she was a runt), and Chihuahua are my favorite. But I will be totally honest and say I will probably never get another Chi. The bladder control is too little for my tastes, and it's hard to get lucky like I did with mine.

Love Bassets, but not Beagles (after fostering a number of them).

Chihuahuas. I lost my chihuahua, Lucy, in November at only 6 years old. She was funny, spunky, smart as a whip- just a wonderful dog. I agree with Alexandria; I despise when people give them such a bad reputation by not treating them as dogs. That applies to all very small dogs, but chihuahuas bear the brunt of it due to their popularity. I never coddled Lucy because she was small. She was trained and exercised just like any other, and she could keep up with the big dogs any day.
Here's Ms. Lucy McGillicuddy (I named her after Lucille Ball ):

I also like Papillons a lot, though I've never had one.

My friend has a Corgi/GSD mix. Very interesting looking, GSD body, not quite as long as a normal GSD on short little corgi legs.
