Default Help, advice needed!

Hello, my family is the owner of a rescued German Shepherd. We also have a yorkie and the two get along fine, but.......
She has been urinating on my carpet and during the day when we are gone, we have to put her in our heated/cooled garage, but yesterday she tore up the trash that had the lids on them and today she chewed up the insillation that was on our garage doors. So...
Can anyway tell me where else I should leave her during the day? We live in a wooded area with a golf course on the other side. When she does go out she doesnt venture far. I really don't like the idea of putting her on a leash all day and can't afford a fence that big. Also, if you can give me an idea of what to do about my carpet that would be great!
My three children love her and she is so sweet to them. She is also six years old so not a pup anymore.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you!

Crate training is priceless. Get a crate and keep her in it, in the house when you leave. That way you don't have to worry about her destroying the house

if the peeing in the house is a new thing, you might consider having her vet checked, she may have a urinary tract infection

I totally agree with both of these replies. Don't get discouraged both issues can be fixed. How long have you had her?

Welcome to the forum, by the way.

To avoid any more destructive behavior, I suggest you exercise her in the morning before you leave for the day. This way she'll be more inclined to sleep while you are gone, crate or no crate. A tired dog is a good dog. lol.

As for your carpet, have it professionally cleaned and pay extra for the deodorizer.

If she was not peeing on the carpet and then suddenly started peeing on the carpet, have her checked for a urinary tract infection. If she's just not housebroken, crate her until she can be trusted loose in the house.

I would get a crate or put up a kennel in the garage. Actually, if I had a large attached garage I'd do the latter, get one of those pre-fab kennels you can get at Lowes and just install it in the garage. More space but then she can't get into the trash or eat the wall.

Welcome to you! Thanks for rescuing

I agree with all above, but I'd also get her adjusted to it while you can observe to see if she has separation anxiety. She may break teeth/break out if that is the case. Short time of crate/kenneling would be best and set up a camera when you leave to see how she acts while your away(start with 10 minutes or so). Give her a nice frozen filled kong to work on, make the kennel a good place.
If she came from a rescue/foster, contact them for some tips as they hopefully know more about her?
