Exclamation Scar Remedies

As I'm sure many of you know, I was in a car accident recently that put me through two surgeries, and left me with many stitches/scars to show for it...

I've been treating my scabs with Neosporin (Vanising Cream and Gel), but I've bought Mederma in anticipation of the full closure of my wounds. I'm hopeful, as I've heard good things, but who knows how well this stuff really works?

I'm not one who's generally terribly concerned with scars, but as of right now, I'm facing two long scars up and down my right forearm, another long scar across my right shoulder, and a huge blob of a scar on my right knee. I'd just like to minimize these as much as possible. What have some of you guys used as scar remedies? What's worked, what hasn't?

I used silicone sheets after my surgery, they worked quiet well for me. They keep the pressure off the scar to keep it minimal and keep it flat. You can use them after scabs are gone. Scar Fx Silicone Scar Healing & Reduction Sheet - 1" x 12" (w/Self Adhesive Side), Scar Fx/Scar Heal, 10112 Scar Reduction Sheet They come in different sizes.

Hope your scars heel fast and be minimally visible!

I've read that silicone sheets are the best, although they are EXTREMELY expensive if you have a large or multiple areas to cover.

I looked into them for burn scars that I have from a car accident and it would have been very expensive to treat them with the silicone sheets for the length of time needed to show results....who knows, though, maybe your insurance might pay for them?

As far as NON-expensive ways to minimize scars...ALWAYS wear sunscreen on them for the first year, or keep them out of the sun, and keep them moist especially during the first 3 months post-op.

I think those Silicone Sheets would work well for the scar on my shoulder, but not for one of the scars on my arm or my knee. Here's what they look like currently:

Shoulder:

Front of my arm:

Back of my arm:

My knee:

Forehead (Not too worried about this one):

As you can see, some of them are linear scars, some of them are "blob"ular. I don't really know what to do with the ones that aren't linear if I want to use the Silicone Sheets, you know?

I very much recommend Bio Oil. It takes a bit of time, and it won't eliminate the scars completely, but it definitely will make them fade and not appear so dark.

I initially got it for my post baby stretch marks (I should have used it BEFORE getting pregnant, but I only found out about it after the fact), and as a general skin moisturiser. I use it for everything now, including as a make-up remover. I've found it's done wonders for my skin and would never go without.

I have also heard of them using the silicone sheets.

What about older scars? I have some 10+ year old scars from mountain bike racing that are not in the least bit attractive...
