Yeah ... I did it ... for the first time ever, I locked myself out of my car. XD
I decided to drop in to the local Rite Aid before going to work and pulled into the parking lot after washing my car. Locked the doors and then remembered I forgot my shopping list. I turned back around, went to the passenger-side door, and unlocked that. Got my list. Then I thought, "Hmm... I don't want to carry my key chain, so I'll just disconnect my car key and stick it in my pocket." I have a quick disconnect keychain that's basically a Y of nylon with the short ends each holding a car key (mine and hubby's) and disconnecting separately, and the long end holding my house and work key, plus one of those little CPR masks in a little nylon pouch. So... I disconnect the key and stick it in my pocket, while locking and shutting the door at the same time. It was then that I realized I was holding the key to hubby's car and not mine. XD ![]() ![]() ![]() I called my friend for advice ... he's in the fire department and I figure maybe he'd know someone who has a lockout kit who can let me into my vehicle. So I'm on the phone with my friend and he goes, "You have USAA for your insurance, right? They cover lockouts under their roadside assistance, just call *the number on your insurance card*." I was like ... "How the heck do I do that if my insurance card is in the same car that I'm locked out of? He got me the number (he uses the same company) and eventually I got back into my car but yeah ... that was all sorts of special. It took the guy like 30 minutes to get the door open to my Jeep. He said it was the hardest car he ever got into. It's a Jeep Wrangler with the hard top on. Guess if anyone is ever trying to steal it, they'll have to just break the window since that's about the only way they'll get in. |

...I admit, I did the same thing a few months ago. First time I've ever done that. So don't feel too bad, it happens to the best of us! haha
![]() I was at the gas station a bit before work and I decided that I didn't want to carry my purse in. So I turn around put my purse back in the car, grab my card out of it and my keys... I then decide, well, that's stupid to carry all these keys around since I had no pockets. So again, I turn around remove what I thought was the part with my car key and lock all the doors.. Just as I was leaving the car I thought to myself "Wait... these keys seem a bit lighter and smaller".... And yeah, that's cause they were. They were the dang house keys!!!! LOL! I felt like such an idiot. Here I am parked at a pump, with my (wrong) keys, card and phone out about 20min. from home, in a bad area of town (car gets low on gas in the best places sometimes)... the dog waiting for me at home, and almost time for me to get ready for work. I called my SO at work and of course got laughed at and asked why the heck would I do that?.... Gee, I dunno... guess I just wanted to sit around a random gas station all afternoon and mingle with the local gang members..... ![]() I ended up having a friend run to my family's house (I always keep an extra key there and at my house, the SO also has one but he was super busy at work and was definitely my last option) She got the key and came to rescue me. Let's just say, I got my gas fast and ran out of there like a bat out of ****.... completely embarrassed and felt like an idiot for the rest of the day. Second option was AAA, but I couldn't wait that long.... so glad someone happened to be home and not too busy! Luckly, my SO has dropped it and doesn't make fun of me about it anymore..... I have to say... Not my smartest moment!!!Glad you got into your car without too much of a hassle!!

I've had the saddle lock me out, my dogs lock me out, and I can do it myself! I try to remember to unlock the quarter window (old truck) before I step out without keys. But then the latch on the rear slider broke a couple of years ago. That provides another "safety" for me so long as I haven't got the bed loaded!
I have several silly stories about getting locked out of my house(s). Best one here was wondering quite how I did it for something like the 3rd time (realized I didn't have my keys on me coming back from walking the dogs very late one night). Went around & broke in through the patio door and as I walked to the front door realized I hadn't locked it to start with! So I got to put the patio door back together for fun! The house stuff happens like around 2 am so I don't really want to wake my neighbor that holds a spare key for me.... |

what a pain
I have to admit I've never locked myself out of my blazer BUT, I have had it get 'locked' at work if I leave the keys in it, and someone has set off their push button lock..weird but it's happened.ABBY, you mention rite aide,,this is OT but, have you see the gsd sitting statue holding a lantern in your Rite AIde?? with the garden stuff, I just picked one up last week at our Rite Aide,,CUTEST thing,,it's a solar light and for once LOOKS like a gsd! Got it 1/2 price for 10$,,not a small statue either

That sucks!
I have never locked myself out of my car before. My friend had her 2 min pins in her car outside Walgreens one day, we were standing next to the cars talking when you hear the car lock, one of the dogs stepped on the lock! We called my ex and he came and did some houdini stuff with a string/wire thing and pulled the lock up and opened the car. We were impressed but we were also wondering how he got so good at that. Later on he showed our realtor and I how to break into a house (realtor forgot the code to the lock box on a house he was showing us.) Sinister locked me out of my house once, he just jumped up and locked the dead bolt. It was either 6pm or 8pm and it was in the middle of winter and I had to walk 2 blocks to my crazy neighbor's house and ask to use his phone.

Been there, done that.
When I locked myself out of my car, thankfully it was at home, but we had roadside assistance on our phones via Verizon. Well, I called them, and apparently, even though my mom paid about $15 per month for the service - they don't service any of our cars! (Toyota, Volkswagen, and I forget what my sister had). I was MAD. Thankfully, my mom had a spare key! One time my dad's friend locked himself out of her truck. He got there the same time the fire department did, and they had a contest on who could get the lock undone first. The team of fire fighters with their professional unlock kits vs. my dad with a wire hanger. Dad won! Haha. That was pretty cool, not going to lie.

My Mom (when I was still living at home) managed to lock my sisters car with it running. She thought that she would turn it on to warm it up, lock it and then use the spare keys to open it up. She wakes my sister up and asks "Steph, where are your spare keys"...my sisters reply "In the center counsel of the car"...ummm oops :-) Took almost an hour to get someone over there to unlock it....needless to say, the car was warmed up :-)

I haven't done that in years, but it is such a pain.
My current car (a MINI) won't allow the doors to lock if the keys are in the car, so that's the only reason I haven't done it in awhile .

I locked my keys in my old car so, so, so many times....
My Infiniti has the key-less system (keyless ignition, and a button you press on the door handle instead of pressing the fob), and it screams at you if you're trying to lock the car with one key inside (I often carry both keys, because I'm an idiot and can't remember where one is...in the bottom of my bag...and grab the other one). This system has worked wonders so far, but nothing is fool proof to a sufficiently talented fool... |
