Default Life After Meth

Where I live in Navajo County, Arizona there is a huge meth problem. For the population we have we have a large Drug Force Task Team, MCAT, and many undercover detectives who deal primarily with Meth. Navajo County Coalition Against Drug Abuse - Drug Statistics

Here is the story of a recovered Meth addict that "Life After Meth" picked as the national representative. He lives in Show Low, his dad is one of my co-workers and a very good friend of mine. His mom works at Show Low School District and I have met him a time or two. This first video is a 30 second clip that you may see broadcast nationally. The second is a longer version telling his story.

We were just down through there this summer. The poverty I saw was heartbreaking. Such a breathtakingly beautiful place, with no natural resources. Even the tourism didn't seem like it made a living worthwhile. I really don't know, but it was sobering, that's for sure.

It is definitely a poverty stricken area. We are the second poorest county in Arizona, second only to Apache County directly east of us. We are in the top 30 poorest counties in the nation. The school I work at has a 70% poverty rate.

With all of the problems here, we have some of the lowest scum of the earth, but we also have some of the greatest people you will find.

Gives the saying "Light shines brighter in darkness" a new meaning, I think because those great people shine like stars into people's lives that need hope. The probation officer seems to be one example of such a light.

Exactly. Watching that part definitely added even more conviction to my already rock solid decision to be a probation officer.

Meth has got to be the worst. My sister started in the wrong crowd since she was 12 years old, and ended up on meth. It was the hardest thing to ever see happen. Thank god she got pregnant and got off of it... still, the worst couple years. It really drains an entire family to see somebody using. She's now a worker in an addictions program, and helps people recover.

Good for her for using this experience to help others. My ex was a meth addict. Destroyed us. So, I know how challenging it is to get away from something like that. It wasn't until I got away from him that I and my children were able to start healing and rebuild. I have so much admiration and respect for people who, despite their devastating situations, turn their lives around and then help others who are in the same boat.

It is so sad to hear what meth does to people, how hard it is to get off of it and recover.

Meth takes people down so fast. thanks for sharing that was so positive. i spend alot time working w/ P.Os at the court helping them get kids into treatment. Our POs are often the only stable force in a kids life. Thanks for sharing; very inspirational.

I love hearing other people's stories and seeing how others are helping people who desperately need it. Hopefully soon I will be able to be one of those people who is out helping.
