I got this idea from a thread I saw on another forum about thrift stores vs "chain" stores.
I buy a lot of my basics at American Eagle/Aerie (jeans, sweaters, hoodies, tank tops). Sometimes I like to go into Delias for their jeans (they fit me pretty well and are really flattering). For the non-basics I go to TopShop, Zara, and thrift stores (though I've found maybe one thing that fits me in the past 3 years). I like buying t-shirts from various websites (cafe-press) or places I visit. I still have shirts I got from when I did horse show competitions (I bought a t-shirt for every show I competed in). When I spoil myself I do it at J Crew, Ann Taylor, Modcloth, and Talbots. Usually around the house I wear yoga pants or sweat pants and a big old hoodie. Where do you get your stuff?

I'm, uh, not young and I totally buy into the Seattle casual vibe so I buy most of my stuff at Eddie Bauer or REI. I never have to dress up so they almost always have what I need.

Gordman's when i'm near one. Ross when I find something I like in my size. Walmart, Target, K-mart for jeans out here. Nothing compares to Gordman's for me though.

We have a chain re-sale...Plato's Closet that has nice brand name clothes I go there for jeans/ shirts. My daughter shops there too! Can't beat the prices~$15 for designer brand jeans.
Otherwise I do mostly Marshalls/TJMaxx or Macy's. We don't have outlet stores local, but I may take the hour trip to shop every now and then to the outlets. For athletic I go to the sporting goods stores. I like underarmor, Keen and those brands aren't available at the discount overstocks. |

I forgot about Ross! I go there every once in while to look for things. I don't always find them though.

I LOVE target. And this is just a recent development. I'm one of those people who tend to buy a lot of the same thing in different colors, once I find something that fits. Target just started carrying all of these different "fits" in there dress pants and I have already bought 3 pairs. I started pharmacy school the fall of 2010 and we aren't allowed to wear jeans, only "professional" clothes (BOO). Anyways, I can literally walk into Target, find the color, size, and "fit number" that I am, and buy them without trying them on in the store!! I have never been able to do that before. And I can always count on them to have any color cardigan I want. Lots of good basics there.

American Eagle, Aeropostle, Target, JCPenny. Not really Macy's, I only got 1 pair of pants there. Nope, they are too expensive.lol. Mostly these are places that have sales.

I will be watching this thread very closely. I have spent years and years working with dogs and horses, so I consider "dressing up" to be a good pair of breeches and my nice half chaps. And then going back to school a few years ago encouraged me to branch out and wear jeans when I'm out of the barn.
But I am at long last in my student teaching phase and needing to wear clothes that look and feel totally alien to me at this point. I have no idea of where to shop, aside from the tack store. I think I might enjoy it, but I sure am lost right now. I tried Macy's over winter break, and I ended up with nothing. I am way past the years when I could pull off the low rise jeans look, but not ready for the old lady suit department, either. Sheilah |
