Default Yeah! My camera broke!

Yeah! Because now I can completely justify getting a new one.
The flash won't work, certain settings means the shutter won't trigger, and once in a while, here and there, it just freezes up on me (poor thing though, it's been in sand, in rain, in snow, in -20 temperatures, no wonder!) It's a Canon 540, so just about anything I get will be a step up.

Suggestions? I've always told myself that when I upgrade, I'll get an DSLR, but after getting to use one here and there, I decided they are just too big and bulky for me.

Any suggestions? My biggest complaints about my ex-camera were that it sucked in poor light, sucked at action pictures, and I could not take series of pictures quickly one after another.

My biggest priorities would be picture quality, and quick processing for quick snapping of pics and good stop-action capability for action shots. (and the cheaper the better, of course - and it should be sand/snow/rain/ -20 degrees resistant ). Bells and whistles for in-camera processing are not important to me.

Thanks!

I purchased the Canon T2i for myself and the Canon T3 for my daughter. I love the quality of the T2i and am waiting to see how the T3 performs.

I have the Canon T2i. It's a DSLR and it is big, but I like the fact that I can change lenses, and the pictures are amazing. I wanted one that was like my old 35 mm Canon Rebel SLR and this is the closest I could find. It's a little smaller than my film camera. My daughter has a small point and shoot Canon that takes beautiful pictures.
