Question help with cabinetry!

I'm remodeling my kitchen and was wondering if anyone has had experience with KraftMaid or Starmark? If so, are you happy? I'm looking at lowes for KraftMaid but my contractor says that lowes is notorious for messing up orders or not having the correct stuff when you get it. But I like the Kraftmaid ones better so far and i really don't know anything about Starmark.

Opinions are appreciated!

My sister in law had trouble with her order of Kraftmaid cabinets. They came in the wrong style, then when the right style came in, some of them were broken. When the mess was straightened out, she ended up with a beautiful kitchen. The cabinets are very nice. My kitchen is custom built by a cabinet maker, but I have Bertch cabinets in my two upstairs bathrooms. They make a great quality cabinet. Mine still look brand new 10 years later. The drawers and doors open and close just as smooth as the day they were installed.

Thanks for the info! I do like birch (which is my first choice) but my contractor keeps wanting me to consider this other store which doesn't carry birch but do carry alder instead. He doesn't like Lowes and said that he will end up fixing the order. UGH! Not crazy about alder though....from what i hear

Bertch is the name of the company that makes the cabinets. I have cherry wood cabinets in my master bath and maple in the other upstairs bath made by the Bertch company.

Bertch Showrooms Found
A couple of places in your area that sell this brand of cabinets in case you are interested.

I have maple Kraftmaid cabinets. We upgraded to have dovetailed drawers. We have had to replace a few of the hinges on the lazy susans, and the originals were discontinued which was a pain. So far the cabinets have held up fine in 10 years(with two kids)
One thing that was not noticed by me at installation was the shelf holder pegs. They were made of plastic, not metal and we had a disaster a few years ago.
My daughter was having her birthday party and went into the wall cabinet to get out a bowl for some candy. The whole shelf fell, which made the shelf below that one go too. I lost all of my everyday dishes and some serving dishes. Broken dishware everywhere with 10 barefoot teenagers running around.
Something to keep in mind when installing....don't use plastic pegs!

DH works at a lumber mill. He said to find out if Kraftmaid offers a cabinet box made from plywood and NOT particle board. He thinks they are all junk. Merillat offers a cabinet box made from plywood. It should basically be a furniture grade plywood. Particle board is junk, junk, junk. The doors and face frames for Kraftmaid is made at a local factory called Mills Pride.

Default kraftmaid cabinets

I have cherry kraftmaid and I am happy no issues at all. I have the upgraded because I have quartz. If you are getting granite quartz or anything heavy you will need the better plywood. I can tell you first hand our first kitchen we did cheap sides and the granite fell when our bathroom flooded and leaked onto the counters thru the ceiling. They looked as if thy would of collapsed over time anyway. Just a little bit of water makes the particleboard swell and split.

We installed KraftMaid several years ago and overall I am very satisfied. The only thing I would change is I would never do white again. Especially since the doors have kind of a foil covering that is starting to peel in a couple places.

We had a couple hinges break 7 years after we installed them and they sent us new ones with no issue. I am also in the logistics business and I will tell you to get any order of cabinets shipped in with no issues and no damage is hard to do. As long as they make it right, then you are covered. Plan on some hiccups with remodeling and you will stay in a better frame of mind.
