Have you ever got yourself a bashing or been flamed for suggesting something that you learned on this forum while on another forum?
I have been flamed repeatedly on another dog forum tonight for suggesting a prong collar for 2 pulling dogs. Basically the owner complained about the dogs pulling and lunging while out walking and him needing a tool that would help control them. I suggested the prong along with getting into some training classes and now people are telling me to leave the site and join an S&M club! The OP in question is using choke chains as it is and everyone is ok with that but apparently the prong is barbaric. I have tried explaining that I only suggested the prong as I used it and it worked for me but I was aware that they are not for everyone. I stated that I wasn't aware that the site was a positive only site and I even went so far as apologising to the OP for upsetting everyone and yet people are still going bat crazy?! I also made the mistake of telling a poster that they shouldn't pet their dog after it nips and I was accused of being a ceser millan dominance freak. I dont play into that concept at all but I do know petting a dog so soon after it nips a person is actually praising it for its behaviour. I was only trying to help but I should of kept my mouth shut ![]() Have you ever experienced this? Perhaps I am so used to this forum and the way things are done here that I dont think when I post somewhere else. |

I was criticized briefly for using a prong on this forum lol...but I don't feed off each individual response nor do I value jaded remarks.
I would suggest anyone complaining about a prong collar to put one around their own neck before making a decision if it is cruel. If they are still whining about it then move on. Not everyone will agree. As for reactions from other people outside of this forum, well....you can't fix stupid.

At least I'm not the only one. I've stopped posting on the thread because people are getting very mean but I'm still reading it. The OP stated they were trying to walk 2 large pulling dogs along with pushing a buggy, they dont have time to walk the dogs seperately and they have used every other harness and head collar but nothing has worked. That is why they are on the choke chain but it just makes the dogs cough and splutter while they pull.
Honestly I thought the prong would be the next step! The posters who have bashed me are now going around in circles trying to give advice that the OP has already tried.. |

catz, prongs are not normally used in Ireland are they? I thought they were illegal in certain countries...so maybe this is where the mindset comes from if you are on a European based forum?
Maybe their minds will open up with what you've shared, even though publicly they are denouncing your suggestions. LOL! Selzer, we all know where you stand on those contraptions.... |

I definitely find different forums have different tones. It kinda makes me laugh though at how emotionally invested people get when talking to strangers they will never meet. What your describing has happened to me and I just moved on.

Thanks to ignorance, a useful training tool the pinch is banned and spoke out against while the real nasty the choker is applauded!
The poster needs to stop walking both dogs until she has them under control first off. They feed off of each other and make it worse. Then she needs to do that you know obedience training thing that so many pet dog people just don't get. Everyone of those people need to sit down with a pinch and a good trainer for some learning to cure their ignorance. |

![]() Prongs are not common in Ireland but I have seen them on a few large dogs. It is a british forum I am posting on and they may be banned there. They probably are and I put my foot in it ![]() Honestly, its not the fact that they hate the prong that bothers me but the way they all flamed me for saying I used one. It is a site that allows cursing so you can imagin what they are calling me! It seems the site is one people turn to when they know they messed up big time but dont want to be told they are wrong. There are loads of "Look my mix breed had Puppies" threads and everyone just OOOHs and AHHs on them ![]() I think I'll just stick around here from now on.. |

I actually do not like prong collars, but mostly because people often use them in lieu of training. It is a magic power steering. It makes walking the dog possible without going the mile and training the dog. And way too many people never graduate from the prong collar.
But one can make the same argument for leashes. If everyone waited around for their dog to be bomb proof and perfect at heeling off-lead before they walked them down the street, there would be fewer stranger bites, because all the dogs would never ever go anywhere.
