Default a new home for Christmas

Last month my daughter asked me if I could help find a home for an 18 month spayed female border collie/ cattle dog (we think) whose owner had died. The dog had been living in the yard of the empty home for weeks, with relatives stopping by to feed her. (My daughter works at CarMax and heard of this dog’s plight through a customer.)
We were able to find a home for “Joey” with a young mom who is deaf, has three young children and a 7-year-old Black Lab. My niece works with the hearing impaired and put us in touch with this young woman and interpreted for us
On Friday with the car loaded with Christmas presents for my niece’s children, and a very timid ”Joey” we made the hour drive to meet her new family. Joey quickly warmed up to me and bathed me with kisses while my daughter drove
We met the woman and her three little girls and the black lab in my niece’s fenced yard. It was awesome to see this woman talk to the lab in sign language and a few sounds. Joey was very happy to meet all the people, especially the children, but was very timid, with tail tucked against her tummy with the lab who mostly ignored her and just running around sniffing, and “watering the trees”

I asked my niece for a ball and the lab went crazy playing fetch with me. It only took a few minutes before Joey was joining in and racing for the ball. After the game ended when the ball went into a neighbors yard , little Joey kept initiating play with the lab!. She is going to give that lab on his toes and help him lose a few extra pounds he is carrying.
It was so cool to see the dogs playing and the children squealing with delight. I bet little Joy (They changed her name) will quickly learn sign language

Joey looks so happy! And the lab seems happy, too. Probably just wondering what the heck is up with the little guy. LOL!
