I have a 900 MB avi file. I would like to burn it to a single-layer DVD and have it play as a DVD (not as a data disc). I tried Windows DVD Maker and apparently it only burns a 4:3 aspect ratio (looks like this is a known issue). I tried iDVD on a Mac but it doesn't recognize avi, go figure. I d/l Handbrake and converted to m4v but iDVD says the file is "too long" (WTF?) the way it's encoded.
Again, I want an avi on a DVD....very simple, don't even need menus or chapters! I'll need to do this again in the future as my old camera saved videos as avi files. I have at my disposal... Mac OS 10.6.8 PC Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Windows DVD Maker on PC SUPER on PC Handbrake on Mac and PC iLife on Mac (iDVD, iMovie) CS5 on PC (Premier?) Mpegstreamclip on Mac

In this case it is one file. I suppose I could split it if I had to.

You'll have to get the software ConvertXDVD. I have a Windows and it works great so I assume it'll work even better on a Mac. It even talks to you!
![]() You can burn pretty much any type of file using this program. I watch a lot of animation and they only come in AVI format when downloaded. |

Yeah.. ConvertXtoDVD is the way to go. I've been using it for years.
You typically get menus and chapters with it. Not sure if there's an option to turn it off or not, but it's the best DVD burning software that I've ever used.

Well the encoding and chapters work but the aspect ratio is really screwed up. I let it choose automatically (the file is widescreen) and it like doubled the widescreen. It looked correct on the preview as it was encoding though.

Nevermind, my media player was set weird. Ratio is correct but it looks like it was scaled a bit. Oh well this will work for now!

Let me know if you need me to check any of my settings. I always get good results with my burned DVD's. They always come out exactly like the AVI file looks on the computer.
Now I just need to get a blu-ray burner and figure out how to burn those.
