Default Can I throttle my daughter

So She is driving to Greenville SC from Washington DC- she left tonight and planned on going half way first.

We know that I95/I85 this time of year is a mess and there is a lot of road construction. I give her the alternate of driving over to Front Royal and taking I-81 down. Pleasant drive with light traffic. Same time nicer drive.

I tell her DONT TRUST YOUR GPS IT WILL TAKE YOU CROSS COUNTRY.

I TELL HER - just drive to Front Royal on I66 and it hooks right up with I81-Take it to I77 and jump on I85

I tell her, why don't you leave in the morning? Yes its a long drive but better in daylight. .

So what does she do. She trusts her GPS and is, after several hours on the road, about one hour from DC. Grrrrrrrrr. At least she is in a motel room for the night.

This girl has a Masters Degree and a good job. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Can kids not just drive without a GPS? How hard is get in I-66, Turn S on I-81 THEN turn on the GPS? It is like I-66, I-81, I-77 and I-85 FOUR stinking roads! You dont even need a map for that!!!!

Sorry just had to vent.

Id rather have a paper map sometimes. I would be one of those people like in the commercial that, when it says "turn left" and its nothing but woods or a cliff....yeah, that would be me.

Yeah. I dunno I think I-66 is not bad at all once you get out of DC though that construction getting onto it is bad........but she knows that way pretty well .........

We just drove back that way when we drove up to visit her.....after driving up 85 and 95. .. and it was a much more relaxing drive. I have too many Christmas memories of sitting on I95 for hours waiting for traffic to clear.

I don't have a GPS (or a smartphone) so I learn the routes before I go and print close-up maps of the major interchanges, in case I get off track. Sometimes I do borrow my dad's GPS but never trust the directions, it's just nice to have the map view up at all times and his new one tells me exactly what lanes to be in. Some people think I'm crazy, since I go all over with my dogs, usually alone, and never have a GPS but if you've never had one, navigation by other means is not an issue. How did we ever get anywhere before them lol...

My oldest daughter is only 14 and I want to throttle her. Maybe I should go ahead, save me the trouble from doing it in the future? lol

As someone's young, throttle-able daughter, I'd like to say GPS is a GODSEND.
Why listen to mom's long winding instructions when she blabbers on and on before you leave the house when you can just listen to the GPS tell you one step at a time, when you need it. :P

Yes, my generation has a short attention span.

Honestly, it doesn't matter which way you leave DC

You will sit in terrible traffic no matter what.

No matter what time of day, what day of the week.

Traffic.
