Our phone bills (land line) are getting outrageous!
Since we call International at least once or twice a week (sometimes more)...I need to find a financially better service. We have AT & T right now...crazy expensive....like .29 a minute! Any suggestions?

I know this might sound silly.... But what about a phone card?? I have seen alot of different pre paid cards at Walgreens/ Gas Stations.... I bought a card when I went to Mexico this year. This way there are no surprise and you can budget it out.

Phone card isn't silly, I've had one for years since you don't always have cell phone service in remote areas. Anyway I've been trying to convince my hubby that we don't need the land line, some day. I have verizon for all our phones. No long distance on the land line, on our cell phones after 9pm & weekends are free and verizon cell to cell is free. I usually make those long distance calls on weekends anyway or I wait till 9pm if I have to.

Yes, that is what I was thinking..or Vonage or a service like Vonage. Friends of mine in Israel and Canada use it and are happy with it. It is not completely as stable as AT&T or other regular services but overall works pretty good and is way cheaper.

That must be me on the landline.
![]() My house has a VOIP phone, and it gets unlimited international calls for free. See if there's a provider in your area? You might also want to try calling AT&T and see if they're willing to add a package for you retrospectively, so you can lower this month's fee?

I tried Magic Jack, which is simalar (I think) to internet based phone service, but in an emergency no electric no wireless router no electric = no phone. Thats why I still have the land line but as a secondary line thats definately cheap.
