Around 11am or 12pm I was sitting on the couch watching tv when I smelled something burning. I got up and started sniffing around when I came to the 2nd bedroom (cat room) it was covered in smoke! I hurried up and unplugged everything in the room, not knowing where the smell was coming from I called my mom to ask what I should do. She told me to open a window and turn my furnace off just in case. I did that, my house was now covered in smoke and smelt terrible, like burning flesh or something. My step dad came over and was shocked that none of my fire alarms went off and couldn't believe how smokey my house was. He checked the furnace, the blower motor died. He told me I was very lucky that I was home while this happened, I could have lost all of my animals to smoke inhalation and my house could have burned down. I bawled my eyes out over the thought of losing my animals, I dont care about my house, in fact I hate it but I dont know what I would have done if I had lost my babies. I also cried thinking about how much my furnace would cost me, it is a very old furnace and we didn't know if I had to get a new furnace or just replace the blower motor. I do not have the money for that, I am struggling, it's never been this bad. My dad told me not to worry about it and that he'd pay for whatever is wrong with my furnace. It's wonderful of him but it makes me feel terrible because that's his hard earned money.
We called 3 different furnace companies and they all said they would charge double to come out on the weekend so I had to wait until monday to get it fixed. We lived off 2 small space heaters, knowing the danger of them I didn't leave my house all weekend in fear of a fire. The furnace guys came yesterday, they fixed the blower motor, it cost $783. As soon as the man walked into my house he said he smelled gas. Well he got his tool out and found a gas leak next to my stove and outside my house right next to my backdoor. I got really lucky, but now I am wondering what else is going to go wrong. I have had nothing but bad things happen to me all year, I have never been more depressed in my life. I'm just done, I dont have any hope left. Life sucks, it's just one thing after another. My whole life has just been pure crap. When will I find happiness? When will I be able to live stress free? I just dont know how much more I can take.

SO glad everything was caught on time and that no one was hurt! I know how you feel. I had a gas leak in my heater the first winter I lived here and it took them 2 weeks to fix it. I was so scared to have any heat on.
You and the furkids are alive and that truly is something to be happy about. It's almost a new year to start over and make it a better one...

Having that motor go out may have saved your lives. A gas leak gone undetected could have been far worse than the motor burning up. I'm glad you are all safe and that you're dad was so supportive!!
Laren, sorry you are feeling so depressed, this time of year is trying and I hope things start looking up for you. |

Oh my, I'm glad you were home and nothing happened to the animals! At least there's that, and a new year is approaching- hopefully life will start looking up! Just keep your chin up, you've got 5 furry friends to be thankful for!

Ugh, sorry for your troubles! Glad everyone is OK though. When I was a kid we lost our parakeet to a CO leak in our old furnace. Bird saved our lives!

So, SO glad you got things caught before something truly terrible happened, and that you and all the furkids are alright. I can't imagine if anything happened to any of mine.
I hope that things start looking up for you soon. After going through some really rough patches of my own, I know how tough it can be feeling like it's just one thing after another. I truly hope 2012 is a better year for you!!

Thanks everyone.
I was definitly freaked out over the whole thing and was too paranoid to leave my house. We got very, very lucky. I could not believe how fast the smoke took over the house. I was terrified. We all slept in the living room saturday and sunday to be by the space heaters. I am thankful and happy no one was harmed.

Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...
It's about learning how to dance in the rain. - Vivian Greene I'm not sure how old you are.. but I'm fairly sure I'm much older.. and yes, life will sometimes suck so much that it seems like it's never going to get better..(cliche' here) but it will. Thank goodness you were home, and the furnace broke down,(a blessing in disguise) the gas leak could have been horrendous..When I help my daughters with financial issues..and they feel guilty..I tell them just wait til I'm old, I'll need help from them..so thank your dad, and hug your pups and cats..they need you as much as you need them. Have a good day... |

Just think how lucky you were that you were there to catch it and that no real damage was done. How lucky you were that the animals are safe. How lucky to have such a nice stepdad. How good it is to know your furnace and gas are safe. How GREAT it is to have your furbabies.

Furtunately good things (believe it or not) came out of them, they were blessings in disguise like someone mentioned. Trust me, I wanted to curl up and die when they happened, I could not believe so many things could go wrong in 1 year!Be strong and stick it out, everything will get better, I promise. Good things are yet to come.
