Some recent talks around this forum and elsewhere have gotten me thinking about the general public's view on animal testing. Being that this is a dog forum I'd like to hear opinions particularly regarding testing on dogs. Dogs are typically used as a model organism because they have many of the same diseases humans have as well as having similar cardiovascular systems. Though I would like to point out that dogs are NOT commonly used, around 90% of lab testing is on mice or rats.
What do you feel is acceptable? Testing drugs? Cosmetics? Behavioral/physiological research? Are some species more acceptable (in your opinion) to test on than others? What about cows/goats/sheep that are bio engineered to create a specific molecule in their milk that can later be synthesized into a drug? Do you feel there are better alternatives?
