Last night a little after midnight, I was out in the backyard with Wolfie, so he could do his business before bedtime. I hear this loud clattering noise coming from the area of the store that's up the street a little. We are on a dead end street, but abut a Main road with stores and gas stations. We are in a small town, and that main rd is very quiet after 10 pm, so the clattering startled me. The noise kept getting closer and louder, and I thought it was a car that was breaking down. Then I hear a man screaming and yelling, and the clattering was even louder. Wolfie suddenly, puffed himself up, fur standing on his back, ears perked way up, tail curled and held high, and he started growling this deep, low threatening growl that I have never heard come from him. At this point, I am getting scared. The noise is right near my house now. Through the trees, and across the street from me, I see a man pushing a shopping cart with a wobbling wheel, and yelling and screaming incoherently, going up the main st. That's just not normal in my town. Wolfie is growling like a dog possessed. I call the cops. The civilian dispatcher answers the phone, I tell him what's going on, and he asks me if the guy is black or white. I told him I couldn't tell from where I was standing, but that he should send a cruiser out to check him out. At the very least he stole the cart from the dept store across the street, plus he was yelling and screaming. He said he was just looking for a description of the guy from me and that he was sending a cruiser out. Seriously? How many weirdos are out and about at midnight pushing shopping carts up the main st while yelling and screaming? Is is that big of a problem in this town that he needs a description of the specific weirdo that I am talking about? I really can't stand the dispatchers in this town. The are self important idiots. Last fall I called them because there was a man pacing up and down my street talking on his cell phone. Not a big deal, but again it was near midnight, my street only has 6 houses on it, and I know everyone that lives here. This guy did not belong. The dispatcher gave me such a hard time, saying that the guy wasn't breaking any laws, etc etc.. that I called my DH who was at work, and works for the State Police. He called the town police and told them to get their asses over to our street and see what was up. Then he came home too. The police got here, and after talking to the guy for less than a minute, placed him under arrest. He was on the phone with the girl 2 houses down, trying to get in and threatening her. He had beaten her up several times before and she had a restraining order against him. GRR stupid civilian dispatchers! To top it all off, Wolfie was so worked up that he wouldn't poop. He woke me up at 3 am to go out and finish his business..

and then on the other hand you have callers who have had their pizza delivered cold and they don't have anything to eat , can a cruiser deliver it faster so it is still hot .

about 3/4 years ago, i was hanging out in the parking lot with a few friends around 1 am when we heard a car pulled up across the street, we then saw 2 guys get out from front, pull out a guy from back seat and beating him up. I called 911 and told them to hurry up cuz this seems bad... I had kept my distance but i could tell they were stomping on him... and while i was on the phone we heard a gun shot, and the dispatcher asked me if i can get closer and get the car tag numbers and better look at the guys... When I'm telling him we just heard a gun shot!! i told him i refuse to go closer and he should just send the cops.
In the mean time, I SAW a cop pull up on the other side of the street, but he didn't move in until rest of 100 cop cars showed up as his back up. The guys got caught, and i'm pretty sure the guy on the ground didnt actually get shot, they just fired closed to him.

Wolfie'smom The events last night could have ended very differently for the g/f of that guy if you had not called and persisted. I called one night when we lived in Warren about hearing shots and a fight ,was told by a dispatcher i could come down and file a disruption of peace c/o in the am .I told her if I was out of ER by then I would. Thought I would shock her; you know what she said"well bring 75.00 b/c that is what it costs to file a complaint. We moved ,cant sell the house though. I now live where our police will do home checks on seniors. I think looking for a new place would be a good idea.

Dispatchers have a difficult job of sorting out the weirdo calls from the real ones and you were a victim of that. Thanks to all the weirdos, people like you with legitimate complaints have to suffer. Dispatchers probably have a set of rules to follow for getting information and just go by rote rather than reason. We have a guy in our town that pushes a shopping cart around and talks really loud, maybe he moved to your town because I haven't seen him lately. That was really great what you and your husband did with the guy on the phone. Wonder what would have happened if hubby did not exert his influence.
