How to Catch Squirrels

The one way door will work. Or the trap.

We have good critter removal people around here, so I don't have to get up on the roof myself.

Get them out of there before they chew wires and potentially start a fire.

I went to Canadian Tire and got a trap for around $50.
Peanut butter was the bait and worked like a charm.
Find the entry point and close it off properly. Chicken wire will NOT work. They will just chew though it. (I learned that the hard way).

When caught, drive them far away to the woods and release them. If you release them too close, they will be back and will more than likely bring friends.

Good luck.
Yup, yup we dealt with this, too and found all of this to be exactly true. We tried the chicken wire.... buahhahaaa, the squirrels giggled as they chewed right through it.

I have huge trees surrounding my property.. and huge squirrels to go with it.

I'd lay in bed at night and hear them chewing the rafters and thumping around. Almost drove me to madness, I was so worried about them chewing on wiring.

We didn't do traps. The varmits would leave when it was warm outside, so we waited and then replaced their entry point with a very strong, triple layered wire on the attic vent. I'm not sure exactly what the bf did but he did it right the second time around. Thank God, that did the trick.

I feel your pain! How I hated listening to them chewing and thumping around!

I put up several different traps. I found mousedroppings in the garage. I realized that there is a huge opening above the door to the backyard and that the garage is attached to the house. So it could get into the house that way. Travel from the garage into the ceiling of the house. So I took out one of the drywall pannels in the ceiling just to get a look inside and to see of what is going on. Again, mouse dropping.

I got dog&cat friendly poison, different traps and poison for the garage.

One trap, it ate some of the poison but then escaped out of the trap. It was one of those plastic carry away traps. Then I got one of the classic "snap&kill" traps and put a little bit of a nutri bar on there. This morning I went to check the trap and the entire trap is gone. I put it up in the ceiling, even reached into the opening and couldn't find it.

So if both rodents, got away and died later down the road within the ceiling. How bad is it going to be?
The first trap must have definitely killed something. They ate enough poison to definitely be killed and left droppings in the trap.
The second trap, I don't know where it has vanished but I sure hope that what ever it was got out of the house before it died or maybe it was big enough to not care about it.

I second this. When I was younger, we had a whole family of squirrels in our log cabin. We got them one by one with a squirrel trap and peanut butter, drove off somewhere remote and let them out.

You use one of these:

You can get them at the store or online for only $15-$20 and you don't have to worry about dogs being poisoned. Just make sure that after the squirrel is gone you seal off the entrances.

I don't know if this show is still on, but the dealt with huge rats in California attics. I think one of the traps they used was called the T-Rex.
