I have a Dyson DC24. It's a multi-floor vacuum, smaller than a normal sized bagless, so easy to manuever, fits into tight spaces, and the balls is a lot of help with corners. It's been fabulous on my weird carpets AND hardwood/laminate/linoleum floors. The smaller size makes it easier to store, too, but the canister has to be emptied more frequently (I only have to empty once per session because I have a smaller house and vacuum daily).

I think it retails for around 300-400, but I found a TON on craigslist for less than 200. I would DEFINITELY recommend Craigslist. I just bought one new for the warranty to make sure it'd hold up.
