Wow LoveEcho. Did they give you any expectations of whether they can remove it? Personally, I would want to know so I think the specialist telling you was the right thing. It's better to know what you are looking for than be kept in the dark and just expect to have more tests without a reason why.

Yeah, part of me is freaked out because I don't think he would talk to me about it about it if he wasn't really, really concerned that that was what it was (he could have just said that he wanted to look for pinched nerves or something), but I'm also glad-- I like to be in the know, and I have several friends who are physicians who can give me a "second opinion" of sorts

If there is something there, he didn't talk about what the options would be. Everything I'm reading is pretty scary though... just because it (if there is an "it") would probably be benign, the nature of it being on my spine doesn't make it at all safe. It sounds like the only option is surgery-- if they can't remove all of it, to at least remove some to relieve pressure.

All I know was it was a pretty big bomb to drop on someone and then say "come back and see me in three weeks" lol.

That's rough, Tory. I'm with you in that I would want upfront honesty, but the waiting is awful. I hope they're able to figure something out for you! In the meantime, tell Echo to take good care of you. Big hugs from me and Baxter, who is sitting behind me on the back of the couch, because he apparently thinks that he is a cat...

When I got an appointment with this guy, I assumed his was old (apparently I assume all surgeons are old). I was very, very wrong.

It makes the appointments a little easier

After being told I had lupus (based primarily on a positive ANA and chronic pain/fatigue), my dr is now not so sure because I'm developing some weirder, funkier symptoms. Like... losing feeling in my legs. Not to the point that I'll fall over, but one or both will randomly fall asleep. Or one or both will randomly feel like they're made of cement and I just spent an hour doing squats. Very weird. A lot of this stuff I always assumed was kind of normal, like feeling really weak/heavy for a bit in the morning, etc. Except it's getting worse. So she referred me to a spine specialist/surgeon who did x-rays of my whole back and an MRI of my lower back. Lower back MRI was fine, x-rays of my mid back showed something "sort of funky" that could just be the way my vertebrae are shaped or an artifact. So this specialist came in with a very serious look on his face and said it's not common, and it may not be what's going on, but all of the symptoms I've been having in the last year (including the chest pains that can mimic GERD, pain that can mimic lupus or fibromyalgia, circulation problems, etc) are indicative of a certain kind of tumor on the spinal cord. He said, and I quote, "I don't want to drop the T-bomb on you and freak you out, and I don't want to worry until we have to, but this is my fear". So...we're doing a mid-spine MRI and he wants me to come back in three weeks. Upside, it explains EVERYTHING that has been going on for quite some time, and it wouldn't be malignant. And he didn't sound like it was all that urgent. Downside, well, duh.

So it's going to be a very, very long three weeks waiting. Hubby is pissed that he would even suggest it before he knew for sure, but I appreciate the honesty. Blargh.

On another note, playing "shell games" with the dog with treats under plastic cups is seriously amusing.

Note to self:

Never ever suck on a fountain pen to make it start working again. My teeth are black, my tongue is black. After scrubbing them with tooth paste and letting it soak in my mouth it still looks like meth-teeth. Ick!!!
