Default Canon Vs. Panasonic Cameras

I did some homework on cameras this past week and it's a toss up between the Canons and Panasonic. I like the Canon G12 and Powershot SX30 IS and the Panasonic G10, FZ40 or the FZ100. I have read that the Panasonic does not have extra batteries available for their cameras available.

I would appreciate any comments on any of those cameras listed.

My daughter has the SX30 IS and loves it! It does take beautiful pictures. I love both Canon and Panasonic products so I am interested in what other people have to say. I am in the market for a new camera as well.

We've got Canon. I like their products.

Black Friday is going to test my willpower. A couple of the local stores have a special on a Canon Rebel with an 18 x 55mm lens, a 75 x 300 telephoto lens, a 4 GB memory card and a carrying case, all for $699. I can feel that credit card heating up...

Went shopping to get some hands-on experience with the any of the listed cameras and only found the Canon Powershot SX30 IS. It was nice but none of the others were available for comparison purposes. I have gone to EVERY SINGLE STORE IN MY TOWN and no Panasonics. I don't understand because that brand has had good reviews. I even called a Best Buy store manager. Couldn't believe that the newest Canon G12 wasn't out either.

While people are saying Nikon or Canon, I don't really feel that way with the point and shoots. I am not very familiar with them, but Nikon and Canon don't dominate that market as much. With DSLR's you are buying into an entire system, and that's why they are tops. With a point and shoot, just go with what one you think provides the best pics in the conditions you'll use the most. I would say the one that has the most good manual features available and still will do a good job.

I want a bit more than a point and shoot camera which is why I listed the models I did. I am not experienced enough to justify purchasing a Rebel.
