Oh, I guess I still consider those "point and shoots" since they don't have separate lenses....

I use/love Nikon really only because as a young man, Nikon was the best, and out of my reach...so really it is an emotional attachment based on my perceptions. The fact of the matter is that Canon's R&D department is larger than the entire Nikon organization.
Canon is like a GSD. There is Canon, and everything else is just a camera. There are GSDs, and everything else is just a dog.

Before I jumped to a DSLR I used a Panasonic FZ50 at the recommendation of my boss (a semi-pro photographer of 30+ years). It was nice, met my needs. The only thing I really didn't like was the "noise reduction" that it tried to do on it's own.
