Default Just got an I Phone and I PAD

I've had an Ipod touch for a few years now and only used it as a music player. Silly me. Bought an Ipad so I can surf the net while I'm having my morning coffee, and download movies so I can view them one the plane when (if) we go down south.

Now I have an iphone (wasn't planning on getting one this soon, but I had to replace my phone and plan). My kids both have one. I've discovered apps.

I've seen several apps for storing sensitive data, such as credit card numbers, banking information, passport information, passwords, website log on passwords, etc. Seems like a good idea. The sites all say the data is encripted, BUT, it seems to me if you ever misplace or lose you phone you have a lot of personal information out there. Anyone use this? I do have a password lock on my cell phone and I assume that there will be another one on the app before you can access it.

What are good apps for this?

I have mine set to erase everything completely if someone enters my password incorrectly several times. I figure I can always reload everything but having my sensitive info fall into the wrong hands would be a real problem.

Also, if you have mobile me you could do a remote wipe if you lose it.

****
when I say erase everything, I mean EVERYTHING... not just on a particular app. I think this is the best thing you can do to safely store you data.

So you keep stuff like you passwords for your bank accounts? I don't even have that one written down somewhere hidden.

What app do you use?

What is mobile me?

you don't need an app for it... it should be in settings:generalasscode lock.... somewhere around there, should be an "erase data" and after 10 false entries it will automatically erase the ipod...

as long as you keep you ipod(phone/pad) updated in your computer you have nothing to lose

Apple - MobileMe - Your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC. In perfect sync.

I don't use an app for that stuff, especially if I don't know who developed the app and what kind of access they will have to my info.... Several bank apps recently were found to have holes in their apps security so who is to say that these fly-by-night apps are secure? I actually email myself all my passwords and store them that way. NOT that THAT is extremely secure, but I feel better than an unknown app.

I have my iPad set so that you have to enter a password everytime you use it so if you don't know the original start-up password you don't get on it, period.

That is what I worried about. Who knows if some of these apps are really sending out information via the internet without your knowledge. All you need is one programming unethical genius employee/hacker to figure out the codes.

I believe I've set up that erase option when I set up my initial log on password.

I'm going to look into mobile me.

if mobileme is anything like microsoft myphone then you can call your phone if you lose it, you can use the GPS locator (not sure if iphone has an actual gps or if it goes by cell phone tower triangulation) it also stores some information (e-mails, phone numbers, but pics use up a lot of memory) and if all else fails, you can erase the memory just from the website (only charges you 2 bucks per use)

Nothing is ever completely gone Everything can always be restored to a point if someone really wants to. I keep all of my sensitive info off of the internet and my digital devices.
Either that or just make a regular text file with your important info that's set out in such a way that only you know what the numbers mean. Ie. your credit card numbers in alphabetical order, then their expiration dates in reverse alpha order, with the dates in Canadian Date Standard so they don't even look like dates lol... etc.

I use E wallet for passwords and such...I like it a lot and I think its pretty secure.

Here is a post from the other day about an app that holds your pets records...I have been using it and love it! It can be used on the iphone and ipad, you just have to use the 2x button for the ipad....enjoy (I swear mine is glued in my hand LOL)

Here's the link: iPad
