I hardly doubt their priorities arent in sync with the rest of the world, sounds pretty normal to me considering everyone puts their money in something different.

Prehaps they feel about their pond, that most on here feel about their pond?

It could be that she is complaining more to you because you are her sister, it could be that her husband thinks its fine and doesnt want to by a new mattress, or it could be that for now they feel that it can wait.

Different strokes. Its their money, they should do with it what they please.

We just bought a Tempurpedic mattress. It was expensive but worth it. IMO a good mattress is very important.

Mine is not great but I've never known any better, and we don't have back or sleep problems. We got a $150 one and then got two nice mattress pads and 1inch of memory foam from Overstock.com and I still love my own bed above all else. My parents' mattress was cheap when they got it - like 25 years ago! Now it's all flattened and caved in everywhere. I can't imagine. Going to bed is my favorite part of the day and we only spent $300 total.

And just what kind of fish would you be cooking up in your sleep?

Geese=poop! We have a koi pond, I started with a pre-form that would barely overwinter them. For my birthday about four years ago, DH built a 5' deep one with a waterfall. He spent way more than expected and the slate around it was more expensive than my flooring in my dining room.
Our mattress is 14 years old, went from a waterbed to an "extra firm"(DH bought it without me, I was almost 9 mos pregnant and could have cared less at the time what I slept on, everything was uncomfortable)...I've hated it for 14 years, but we haven't replaced it, a featherbed on top saves my back. Replacing the mattress is on my to do list!

I know my parents consider the amount of money I spend on the dogs to be insane.

I don't do much personal shopping, I don't have the latest electronics, but I DO have the latest in dog toys and we're always well stocked in treats!

ETA- Geese are mean!

I am rather bad with money, my whole saving right now is for our trip to Disney World. I finally payed off my car last year, a Chevy Cavalier, and becasue I hated the car sooo much, even though there was nothing wrong with it, I went out and bought a Lexus. Now I love my car just hate the payments. lol We def need a new mattress, its an old crappy Ikea one my boyfriend had when I moved in, and we keep talking about getting a new one, I want it gone but I rather spend money on MAC makeup. Its such a girl thing to do but it's my sick obsession. Dogs come first of course, they eat better and are healthier than us.

Sounds like your sister has her priorities a little confused. What the neighbors think about her pretty pond is making her go through life with a messed up back. Great for her!
