KODACHROME Film
KODACHROME Discontinuation: Eastman Kodak Company announced on June 22, 2009 that it will discontinue sales of KODACHROME Color Film this year, concluding its 74-year run as a photography icon. Sales of KODACHROME, which became the world's first commercially successful color film in 1935, have declined dramatically in recent years as photographers turned to other films or digital capture. Today, KODACHROME represents just a fraction of one percent of Kodak's total sales of still-picture films. Despite all its outstanding features, KODACHROME involves a highly complex development process that led photographers to experiment with and adopt newer KODAK films that deliver outstanding color images through a simpler workflow. Although KODACHROME has very distinct characteristics and no film will give the exact same results, current users are encouraged to try other Kodak films. Kodak continues to bring innovative new film products to market, having released seven new professional films -- over the last three years alone. http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professio...alFilmPKR.jhtml I just saw on TV that there is only one plant in the world (It's in the US) still processing this film and they'll shut down at the end of 2010. Somethings ending just make me feel old ![]() Wonder what Paul Simon thinks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujhdf9_IO4w

kodachrome is/was a very fine color slide film. there is now software for digital images that mimics any kind of film ever made, and then some. no reason to ever shoot/process/print film anymore, those days are gone.

It is a really nice film but it costs a lot and not a lot of people are using film anymore so I can see it going. Look what is going on with black and white film. Not easy stuff to find, can it still be found sure but not like it once was.

I for one miss film. Don't get me wrong, I
my DSLR, but there is something to be said for not being able to see the picture right away. The anticipation while waiting for it to be developed was so sweet! The family slide shows. Oh man, seeing the HUGE images on the screen - nothing beat that!

I recently found some undeveloped roles of this film that my MIL indicated would be of my husband when he was a baby...I tried to get it developed and no one knew what to do with it! I thought it had already been discontinued. I guess I better bump processing this to my priority list or never see what's on the film.
