Default A Hand-Painted Sign Controversy

<span style='font-family: System'>CARY

AKA C.A.R.Y.

"containment area for relocated yankees"</span>

This used to be a little town of country people which has gone from about 10,000 people to 100,000 (75% or so northerners) in the last few decades. It has seen plenty of growing pains.

My opinion: This town has way too many rules and regs and one bunch of very uptight inhabitants. They used the "sign ordinance" often, and numerous businesses have had to alter their signs. The sign ordinance has been a major ongoing thing here for years!!!

I ride by this house many days, it is near my office and I can't help but

ACLU files suit against Cary for violating rights of homeowner

<span style='font-size: 11pt'>Cary, N.C. — The American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina Legal Foundation filed a lawsuit against the Town of Cary Thursday challenging the town’s assessment of fines against a Cary homeowner who spray-painted a protest on the front of his home.

The town issued a notice against David Bowden last week, noting that his message – with words that some might find offensive – <span style="color: #FF0000">violates size and color limits set by the town’s sign ordinance.</span>

Bowden hired someone to paint the sign on his home after he claimed <span style="color: #FF0000">a road-widening project left his once-arboreal yard, at 305 SW Maynard Road, void of trees and with a steep slope that funnels rain water into his home.</span>

"The town knows about it and nothing has been done about it at all," Bowden said.

<span style='font-size: 11pt'>So, what do you think????</span></span>
He is currently being fined $500/day.
He could lose his house.
Should he take it down?
Should they have to buy his house?
or at least fix the damage they caused?

Well if that is the sidewalk just before the road... I would be impolite also. I'm not sure exacly how but I would feel the same. I live in the coulntry and I believe that when the economy turns around (will it ever???) that our entire home may become victim to being in the MIDDLE of the road extension in our area. In such case will probably let the village F.D. use it for practice.

Is this the way people solve problems? Or just create more problems for themselves? Seems he has pushed himself into a negative-negative double bind. Not so smart.

I feel like sometimes the things I see here are just so different from the things I see here!

I think it is a stupid thing to do to your own house and could have been handled in a better manner but still.... it is TOO FUNNY!!

Its his home and I think he should be able to express himself

Id be mad, too. they should fix the mess they made for him.

where I live, its all very corrupt IMO when they decided to widen main road, the Mayor owned one of the businesses on it....the City bought the place and he made quite alot of $$$$ off the deal. hmmm people were wondering.

500$/day would gag me pretty effectively. I think what he did was draw attention to his situation, other attempts seem to have failed.
