Right to hang laundry.
IMHO, there shouldn't be a law against hanging laundry. This article talks about associations .... but she is not in an association. Just a regular residential street. (she's actually not even on a 'Main' street). Hanging laundry saves a lot of money, is good in a sense that you are using less electricity ... less chemicals as far as dryer products, etc. Not to mention the fresh smell. Perkasie used to be real quaint & rural. Now it's turning into snoot-ville. IMO.

I've read several articles about that. some states are considering laws saying it's legal to hang laundry.
I can kind of see both sides. god knows I don't want to look at the neighbors' stained undies, but I guess that means I shouldn't be ogling what's hanging on their line.

I just feel that Perkasie is being hypocritical. They have all the attitute of 'recycle', 'clean our water & air' etc., in the schools and the local meetings ..... then they start this .....

Hmmm is that her front yard? I wouldn't want to see someones clothes hanging in the front yard. The backyard fine. As far as I know though there are no laws she is breaking. I have been know to hang my clothes in the backyard. The article even states that she doesn't hang her undergarments out there. So what's the big deal to the neighbors? I would be peeved though if my neighbors had their stuff hanging all over the front yard......

Looks like the front yard to me as well - I'd not be too happy if my neighbors hung their laundry in the front yard either.
Back yard? Go for it, dry away.

Gods, and 20 years ago when my parents bought this house it was a negative on their list that there was not an existing clothes line but a roughed in 12'x10 laundry room.
I can see people in condos and apartments being out of luck. They don't own the common areas so they have to follow the rules set out by the owners. Now, as far as "unmentionables", those need to be dried where they can't be seen. Plenty of indoor clothes racks for drying. |

Why does she have to hang them in the front, where everyone else can see them? I wouldn't care if one of my neighbors hung laundry in the back, but I would complain if someone started hanging their laundry in their front yard.
If her only point is wanting to be able to dry her clothes, why can't she hang them where her neighbors can't see them? Sheilah |

I do think that underwear should be hung up to dry indoors (my grandmother used to hang her underwear and stockings in the kitchen, near the stove), but I don't see anything wrong with hanging other laundry outdoors, especially things such as bed linens or blankets that take a long time to dry. I can't tell from the photo in the story whether this is her front yard, or whether maybe her house is on a corner lot and it's the side / back yard behind the house that just happens to be alongside the road? But at any rate, if it is HER yard and there are no homeowner's associations to worry about, she should have the right to hang her laundry in the front OR the back yard, whatever she prefers. I don't like people telling others what they can and can not do on their own property - what business is that of theirs, as long as it's not illegal?! Then again, laundry is a pretty common sight for me around here. We're in the country and have a lot of Amish neighbors.
