Default New creative phishing expedition - pretty slick

I got a call a few minutes ago - on my HOME phone, not my office phone. Woman said she was calling from CapitalOne to tell me about new federal regulations regarding how I use my card. My card ending in ####.

Then she said Just to confirm I'm talking to the right person, can you give me your zip code. I said no, I don't give that out over the phone.

She tried to slick talk me in to giving her my zip code and said she couldn't tell me about these new regulations unless she could confirm she was talking to the right person.

Still not giving up the zip and I asked her 'Is this any different from the letter I got yesterday?' She said what was in the letter. LOL so now I know it's a scammer.

When you go to a gas station and use your credit card to the pay at the pump - you don't sign for a quick $10 in gas - you put in your zip code. I've been asked for my zip code for other credit card purchases - granted not big ticket items.

They're getting creative about stealing your money!

Yes! The card she was calling about is NOT my ATM card that I use all the time. It's one I don't use very often but I did use it on sunday to pay for a pizza becuase we'd gone to the beach I left the ATM card at home.

There are new regulations out for over draft fee's, this does sound like a scam though...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a new scam. I hate thinking that someone stole my credit card number out of the papa gino's I took my children to on sunday but it's the only place I've used that card in months.

cc companies do not call you, they are not paying people to call all of their customers to explain things. They send a letter and if you have questions YOU all them. not the other way around.

That's what I thought, this woman was just phishing for my zipcode

I think I'm going to call regional PapaGinos becuase I checked earlier, it's only place I've used that card in like 6 months.

Learn something new everyday. Maybe it's just in the States but I never heard of putting in your Zip to buy gas, ect.. Thanks for the heads up Jenn.
I'd be calling the head company also.

I just spoke to a very nice woman who totally stumbled over how to type in Airport Rd Warwick Rhode Island (e'ahput rud war'ick rud i'lun). She typed in my whole story -I could hear her- took my phone number and said I should be hearing from a district manager. Hopefully he'll know how to say War'ick and send me some coupons!
