Default Vizsla

Hey guys. So, Shane and I are at a point where we are ready to bring a new member to our family. 99.9% my choice was another German Shepherd. Then I came across Vizsla, this dogs look so noble and regal (like a GS) but the plus is no shedding! Of course, they are hyper dogs but any GS owner knows how to tame handle that. I was wondering has anyone ever owned a Vizsla? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys.

I was going to say they shed. They are very smart animals and very loyal.... go visit them at the breaders and watch the older animals. good luck, they are great dogs!

You do realize too that many of the pointing breeds behave like a working line GSD on crack right!

We have owned three of them - and they are wonderful dogs - very loyal - LOVE their families - and incredibly smart. The thing to be very careful about, however, is to ensure that you are prepared to give them enough exercise - both mental and physical. We got two of ours as adults from people who did not understand how much exercise they need and were rehoming for free in desperation. I remember going to see one of them who just ran around the house (outside) in a huge circle at top speed the entire time we were there. He was insane! The owner had to tackle him to get him to stop and come to us. We brought him home and once he was given consistent exercise and training was an absolutely wonderful companion.

They do actually have a lot in common with GSDs as I think about it - and certainly do shed. Ours were velcro dogs and happiest when they were right where we were.

Sorry let me rephrase the shedding...they don't shed AS MUCH as a GS sheds. Their coats are easier to care for.

Thanks everyone for the input. I am going to find a breeder and go check them out.

One of my daughters has a mostly Vizsla mix.
Sammy is a great family dog and everyone who meets him loves him.
He has a very soft and endearing yet poised personality.
He is definitely a velcro, "always have to be at your feet" guy. Sheds but nothing like the shepherds and his coat is such a gorgeous copper red.
When he runs he reminds me of a deer, except when he gets excited and wants to play with my GSD, he runs circles around her, just about sideways!
Lots of energy unleashed. He is very eager to please tho and definitely doesn't push any limits. He can turn it off on command.
His bark is more like a baying howl, and probably the only thing that annoys me about him.
I enjoy having him stay with us whenever the need arises!
I hope you will be as blessed as we have been with Sammy, if you decide on a Vizsla for your family!

I have never been a sporting breed fan...but a Vizsla is one of only 3 sporting dogs I'd own
