I was wondering being a breeder myself on how other breeders return money put down as a deposit.
Here we refund any of the deposit paid for adults or pups to the clients if and when they decide to change their mind. No Questions asked. How do all of the rest handle this, Do you refund or have a clause that says any deposit is non refundable in your contracts

I do not refund deposits if the buyer changes his mind. But I only ask for a $100 deposit and that is only after the puppies are born.

I don't refund either for I use that money in trying to find that pup a home that had one to begin with but again I haven't out of 4 litters one to back out of getting a pup, I will refund if something happens to that pup being sick or dies or something but not for changing their minds or finding one elsewhere.

Not a breeder but I was required to put a non refundable deposit on Havoc. The deposit was a bit steep too.

i'm not a breeder. i'm a Shepherd owner and lover of the breed.
before i bought my current dog i had a $500.00 dollar deposit on a puppy. the deposit was placed before the litter was born. a year or so there was no puppy. the breeders dog wasn't getting pregnant. we were in no hurry for a pup. after the year was up i asked for my deposit back. she gave it back with no problems. the breeder apologized for not having a puppy available and she said if she can be of service in the future please contact her. i wasn't turned off from that experience. i found another breeder and again i placed a $500.00 dollar deposit on a puppy before it was born. no problem the second time. the breeder was in constant contact with us. she sent us x-rays of the mother during the pregnancy. everything turned out fine. my boy is 17 months old now and the breeder still keeps in touch. the first breeder i used had a no refund policy. she explained her policy to me before the deposit was taken. there was nothing hidden about her policy. i can understand a no refund policy. i think you should be flexible about it.

Some take deposits for planned litters, But we don't until pups are on grounds. I would rather put someone on a waiting list and then when pups are born than I get in contact with them and then ask for a deposit.

I'm not a breeder but I have been looking into breeders to adopt from and most I've seen say on the website that the deposit is non-refundable. However I had a deposit on a kitten once from a breeder and it was supposed to be non-refundable but when things didn't work out since it was not through my fault, the breeder said she'd return my deposit after the kitten was sold (which she did.)

Janet So what you are saying is that the deposit will go toward advertisement if a client backs out of the deal, RIGHT?
