What is the average time people wait for a puppy? I just want to know if 7 months seems aliitle of a wait.

My next puppy is chosen and the dogs haven't even mated yet. For this on it's 7 months. I'm on another list for a puppy that I will probably not get, but that wait will be 15 months.

I waited over a year for Eli, my youngest. The wait was so long as I was so specific as to what I was looking for. I wanted a long coat with a personality that would fit in with my other dogs. It was hard waiting but well worth the wait.

7 months sound about right. Waiting for Ike took about 9 months. The search for Ike took 3 (although 2 of the 3 months were spent looking for a Malinois pup so I'm not sure that counts LOL). So a year.

I've been waiting for 8 years. When there's room for another dog in our home, I keep falling for a rescue, a dog that REALLY needs me, then there's no more room at the Inn
![]() I won't hope to lose one of mine and I know that I'm maxed out at 4 no matter how much I fall for the Beautiful pleading eyes of Ashley in Virginia (urgent) or Chief and Thuner (both urgent) also in Virginia. So I in the breeders section and the choosing your puppy section and maybe when I am ready to retire, I will be able to put down a deposit on my perfect puppy. Until then, I will look at my beautiful family of furbabies and thank God that they're in a better place than they were...

It is never to long to wait for the right puppy. Too many people are in a hurry. I have one person on my waiting list that will be waiting 3 years and another that is waiting almost 2.

Lisa, do these people that wait for years at a time already have a dog at home?

Considering most females only come into heat every 6 months, and most breeders don't breed their females more than once a year, sometimes less, waiting several months for a pup is not at all unusual. Especially if the person wants a pup out of a specific sire or dam rather than other dogs the breeder may be breeding.
We frequently have people waiting a year or more for pups. We've had a few that waited 2 years or more.

The one person waiting lost her dog last fall. The other has a dog in the home, but it is his wife's dog.
