Okay, so maybe this is silly, but we only decided on a kennel name like just over a month ago, and have not been able to get a hold of anyone who knows enough about german grammer to tell us which preface, i.e. von, vom, or von der, van etc, is correct. the kennel name is Zeder Bach, which is Ceder Creek ... can anyone who knows more german than us help please
I have a german/english dictionary, but cant seem to get anything concrete there. I am horrible with other languages. Thanks so much, Sarah

You might contact the foreign language department of a nearby college or university, or even a local high school that offers classes in German. Good luck!

I kind of thought so .... thank you so much. I have so much time and effort invested in this litter(our first, and maybe only) I dont want to look bad/stupid over such a simple detail :-).
If you dont mind another question. I think I remember 'von der' being 'son of', is this correct? And what is 'vom'? 'From'? Like 'From Ceder Creek'? Thanks again Chris.

There is no "von der" in German. If the noun in the dative prepositional phrase is feminine (or plural, making it feminine), then it would be "von den" which is the same thing as "von".
Von/vom mean of, from, or by.

What does it mean then, when the kennel name is von der 'something'?
like Zwinger von der Dornberg? I wish our CC here had a german course ....

Lies, that is actually incorrect. There are a number of kennels with von der. For example Zwinger von der Lindenhalle.
