Question for anyone who can answer. I got a puppy from the shelter last week and they had her as a Shepherd. I assumed she was a GS. Last night my brother asked me what kind of dog she was and I told him GS. He said "tan color"? So that started my questioning. I just went to another website that has a list of every dog imaginable. I found the Anatolian Shepherd dog who looks like Lola just older. Is that breed still considered part of the GS breed? Does that even make sense? lol I would post pixs but I dont have my camera with me. Thanks for any info.

Have you looked at Belgian shepherds? They are tan with black on their faces

I do have pictures of Lola just not with me. I can upload them tonight. I just looked at the Belgian Shepherds....Tervuren, Laekenois, Malinois, & Groenendael and Lola does not look like any of them. I am convinced she is a Anatolian Shepherd. Thanks if again if you like I can post pictures of Lola tonight when I get home.

My in-laws have an anatolian. He's a great dog. I'll be interested to see pics of Lola and if she looks like him.

Well my thoughts rescue puppies is it is harder to tell what breed(s) they may be mixed with until they are older. I joke sometimes that shelter puppies are all GSD or lab mixes but I don't think that is too far stretched since they are among the most popular breeds out there. It is possible that she is mixed with anatolian shepherd but probably not likely. I think I have met one in my 10+ years working in kennels and veterinary clinics. I'd be interested to see pics though. =D

I agree that she's most likely a mix of some sort and it will be difficult to tell of what until she's older.
Anatolians are quite rare in the US, so the odds of one ending up in a shelter are pretty astronomical. Whereas similarly looking mixed breed pups in shelters are rather common.
