Cars on the road rule

My GSD is 3yrs since Monday! I live on a busy main road and when we go for walks I take him done country roads so he can have a run about and go in the ditches and bogs without worrying about the traffic. However some people do live down these lanes so the odd car comes along. I have him trained now to come straight back to me when I say ''Car coming'' or '' Car on the road'' and he comes back and leans against me and waits.
I know it works as he came back to me one day and started leaning against me and sure enough along comes a car that I never heard!
