Default Extremely proud of midnight!!

I have a solid black female GSD who is 12 weeks old. At this age she is friendly with everyone! She isnt to bad about pulling on leash, she likes other dogs. She LOVES cats! At this age she knows the commands sit, lay, come, & when she is in a laying position I can say up and she will come up into a sitting position! I cant believe how fast she is learning! One quick question though how do I get her out of the habbit of only doing a command when I have something she wants. I dont always give her a treat I praise her & reward her with play time but I think she is learning SO fast! She is very intelligent & loyal!

You answered your own question. We slowly did a treat wean: I would treat after every successful command, then I did it every other time, then every third time, then so on. Even now at 5, mine will randomly get a treat for following though with a command just to keep him on his toes.

Keep doing what you're doing. Honestly at such a young age I wouldn't worry about fading treats all together or even slowing down. When my dog was that young we would use his entire meal of kibble as treats and just make him do trick after trick (or just feed it to him while he was still in down or sit position to reinforce).
