Knuckles is 100% daytime housetrained, haven't had an accident in over a month, but he sleeps in a crate at night so I wasn't sure about nighttime. He would hold it until I woke up in the morning with no problems.
He seemed to have a hard time pooping last night, so we gave him some pumpkin. My husband put him in his crate around 10:30 last night and took him outside again around 1:00 (he was whining). I woke up at this point and we decided to give him some more pumpkin and hubby would stay up with him (he had shoulder surgery a few weeks ago and is still sleeping on the recliner in the living room). Knuckles went right to the couch & then after a few minutes went to the dog bed in the living room and just quietly chewed on a toy. I woke up at 5:30 this morning to Knuckles ringing the heck out of the bell and whining, so I took him out (hubby had fell asleep ). When I brought him back in, I just left him, didn't put him in his crate and I just went back to bed. I heard him lay down on the dog bed thats in our room and when I woke up this morning at 7:30 I found him on the other side of our bed - all snuggled up in his crate! ![]() The only issue is his hard time pooping, he's eating & drinking fine and acting normal. I was so proud of him! I even know he had some water in the middle of the night! I'm so proud that he stayed quiet and didn't even try playing with Saki or the cats during this time. Now after I got up this morning and let him out... once he came in it was GAME ON! ![]() Hubby wants to leave him out tonight and see what happens. He thinks he'll just sleep or be quiet and not destroy anything... so we'll see. I know he'll let us know if he needs to go outside, at least.

I would really get he fellow past teething before trusting him at night. Not so much the housebreaking but too much tempting to chew on.

Thats what I said, too, but my husband made a good point. There are more dog toys laying around this house than there are things that he shouldn't chew on (thats not really an understatement LOL). I'm a little leery on trying it, but hubby wants to. He has this thinking that the only dogs we ever actually used a crate with was a Pomeranian we had and Saki. Saki was out of the crate at night around 3-4 months and she was a big chewer and still is. We've had 2 other puppies (a rottweiler and a rott/shepherd mix) that we raised, inside, without a crate at all (back before we had even heard of crate training) and we never had a problem with them.
It's more his decision than mine, but I'm willing to try it. I'm just happy that I can call him fully housetrained now.
