Default Viktor Held His Sit/Stay In Unusual Circumstances

This might not be a lot for most of you, but we are in week 4 and taking baby steps.

One of the things I worked with Viktor on this weekend was holding "stay" when I am getting out of the car. He gets all excited and it is a work in progress.

So, last night, we are arriving home after being out. I make him sit and command stay. He seemed really excited, wanting out, but I was determined he wasn't getting out until I released him. So, finally he held his stay long enough and I let him out. When I turned around, I discovered there was a deer standing in the yard 15-20 yards behind me. No wonder he was so excited!!!

He is my good boy and making GREAT progress!!!

That's impressive! You might start teaching 'wait' in cases like that. It's a bit easier to hold since he won't have to hold a specific position. I use it a lot when we're walking in the woods off lead and he's ahead of me or when I'm getting ready to go outside. He knows he's going to get to do what he's wanting to do it's just going to be a second.
