For the first time the other night Rambo really started to show what he's made of, I think.
I had left for band practice pretty late, because I work nights, and my gf was just getting in bed. I don't know if someone was ACTUALLY trying to break in, but she said from the bedroom it definitely sounded like someone trying to get in the door. She said that Rambo flipped a switch like she had never heard before, almost sounded possessed. She said she could hear him go barreling down the hall from the kitchen before she ever even heard someone at the door, and then started just going crazy with a bark and growl that we didnt even know he had in him. We get people at the door all the time, delivery men, friends, etc, and he'll let out a gruff or two but never anything too serious. But she swears this was a full blown protective type behavior. I still haven't seen him go in to this "mode" so I can't say. But at 8.5 months he might be coming into his own? Seems a bit young but, I guess it's possible, he's matured fairly quick with everything else. In truth I'm not condoning this sort of greeting, and it has never happened before or since then, so I do sort of believe that maybe there was a threat there. We do live downtown in a decent size city (it's a college town) so I can't be sure but I believe we saw the first glimpse of his protective side. Usually when strangers come to the door I can't keep him from trying make them his new best friend! |

I guess I just wasn't really expecting it till he was about a year old or so. It is kind of comforting though.
So far I've only ever had the puppy GSD, haven't really been thinking much about his switch to adult hood that would inevitably come sooner or later haha |
