Our pup's papers say that the sir is avalanche and the dam is breeze vom haus iris. I'm not really sure how they play their roles in the big picture?

I'm not really sure what you mean when you say you "don't know how they play their role in the big picture", but the big picture is that they have passed along their genes (good and/or bad) to your puppy.

So all it is is their blood line? How do you know if it is a good blood line or not?

the sire and the dam of your pup created that individual , just as your father and mother gave you physical features , which distinquish you from all others . You can look back into your family album and see parts of yourself and get a sense of belonging .
You share the good , and , you share the bad . There are some health risks which tend to run in families . Saw a program the other night which has found a family in which all members have early onset Alzheimer's disease .
There are some diseases which run along a gender . In humans red - green colour blindness , frightening degenerative diseases such as Huntington's disease, blood clotting diseases such as haemophilia are passed along by the double XX , female.

Your pups colour , the anatomy, the temperamental make-up , down the line the orthopedic health , hip, elbow , degenerative spinal problems are his genetic heritage .

Sire and dam , and the families they represent are important . In the case of a pure bred with a breeding program all these things are guided and a deliberate effort to minimize or eliminate problems should be there .

That's exactly what I was looking for. How would you go about getting information on the sir and dam? We bought our puppy from a person who got him from a breeder. We have all the paper work so I know it is all legit. First step would be contact the breeder right?

carmspack 04-14-2014 09:58 AM

you said that you have all the paperwork .

that is what the breeder passed on to your re-seller , and they to you.

What does it say officially under SIRE -- give us the full registered name . Do the same for the DAM -- full official name.

Then the people here that are familiar with the lines or study pedigrees can provide links or anecdotal information that will reveal background information.

I would be really really really interested in looking at Breeze von haus Iris. May be good news , might be disappointing .

I'll list it below.

sire- Avalanche
dam- Breeze vom haus Iris

carmspack 04-15-2014 12:19 AM

no more than that ? Who are the sire and dam of Breeze.

The reason that I am asking about the haus Iris is because this is a very old DDR breeder . A few years back I spotted some pedigrees that were "unusual" , not at all along the pattern that he would have had . So, I wrote the Seidler family Deutsche Schäferhunde "vom Haus Iris" . That was NOT their breeding . They were not happy that their kennel name was being used .

With only one name for the father.....my guess is that you got a back yard bred (BYB) puppy. Are these AKC registration papers?
