Ok so I am in the process of getting my first GSD. The father of the pup I am getting parents are Sir Von Barren Weaver and his mother is Madam Von Dutchess Weaver. Can anyone help me or direct me where to go from here?

It may help if you post a link to the kennel or the pedigree....have not heard of them and don't find anything on a quick search.
Some of the dogs in the pedigree *may* be here (data is user entered) www.pedigreedatabase.com Did not find anything on the OFA database where breeders have their dogs' hips and elbows evaluated and graded to help reduce incidence of dysplasia and other genetic diseases Orthopedic Foundation for Animals I would get a lot more information before I committed to this purchase. Have you at least met the parents?

From the registered names, there is nothing to deduce what the bloodlines are....Is the last name of the breeder Weaver by chance???
At the very least, be sure that the parents are OFA certified to be free of hip dysplasia....just because "they run around and look fine" does not mean anything! Do either of the parents have ANY type of training and credentials??? A CD, a CGC, Rally? ANYTHING? To get the best chance of a healthy stable dog, you should buy a puppy whose parents are proven to have no hip/elbow dysplasia (the OFA Certification) and whose temperament has been tested and judged by someone neutral and qualified. Normally, I would suggest IPO/Schutzhund titled parents, but by the little info given, I doubt they are titled or training for those....at the very very very least, a CD under AKC judges would substantiate that the dogs have decent nerves and trainability as they would have to go to at least 3 shows and qualify with a 170 out of 200 possible points. Dogs are comfortable in their homes, and the owners may never see any issues there, so proving that in a neutral venue is the MINIMUM that you should require of a breeder who is producing a puppy who will be your companion for the next 10-12 years. I found this: Would be a full brother of your pup.
Males - www.mkhortonshepards.com This is not the breeder you are looking for, but someone breeding with one of his dogs, yet I can infer two things: - They breed the same pair together more than once, so these are really super pups or they don't want to pay for stud fees. - "Champion bloodlines" usually implies they do nothing with their dogs, so they rely on titles back in the pedigree. The first thing that caught my eye on Maxx is how loose he is. Last edited by Catu; 02-08-2013 at 12:00 PM. |
