Goodmorning, I was noodling around online trying to find what I could about my dogs history. I have the AKC pedigree certificate, but thought I'd see what turned up if I googled some of my dogs forebearers. I did find some that were on facebook. Is there a better way to look up a dogs history? There is no real reason I'm doing this other than curiosity. BTW, I noticed some of my dogs forbearers had a DNA profile done. What is the purpose of that & what does it reveal?

A dog can be DNA'd for a number of reasons. If a dog sires more than three litters in a year, or more than seven in his lifetime, the AKC requires that he be DNA'd for their Frequently Used Sires database. An imported dog must be DNA'd to be bred. In cases of a miltiple sire litter, the sires, dam and puppies are all DNA'd. If there is a question about the parentage of a dog, they and they parents are DNA'd. You can have your dog DNA'd just for the heck of it.
