If there were a litter of 9 puppies, all which were long stock coats, and 5 were sables and 4 were black/tan, what lineage would you assume they were from?
Parents have completely straight backs, if that matters? Also, I'd love to hear your reasoning! |

American Show Lines and/or American Pet Lines.
1) Because people tend to forget that there are sable ASL dogs 2) Because I think this must be some kind of trick question.

I would guess because of the sables it would be unlikely that it was pure West German Showlines.

Well, it could be a mix of anything--the only thing I would guess is that the litter is not 100% German show line--you don't see many sables in German show lines. All lines of GSD have the gene for long coats.
Most reputable breeders do not make a habit of breeding longcoat to longcoat, which is the most likely explanation for a 100% longcoat litter. So I could hazard another guess that it's a BYB. Granted, it's possible to breed two short coats (or short coat to longcoat) and get a litter of 9 longcoats, but it's highly unlikely. |

Thanks for all the responses btw, i knew y'all would be the best to ask!
Oh, it's not a "byb" and a couple people from this forum have GSD from this kennel. It's not a dog most people on this forum are looking for though... if that makes any sense? |
