there is no line breeding, which IMO is a good thing in the WG Showlines.....I did not look for back massing tho!

Whenever you need more insight on a pedigree, it often helps to look at the 6 generation pedigree.

In the 6 generation pedigree for Dakota here:

you can clearly see her pedigree is solidly German conformation show lines, with many very well known dogs and kennels represented. You can also get a truer idea of what linebreeding etc exists further back in the pedigree. For instance you will see that Jeck Noricum appears multiple times in this pedigree, as does Visum Arminius, Fanto v Hirschel, Uran WildsteigerLand and others.

Liver is a recessive color dilution of the blafck pigment found in many bloodlines of the GSD. The liver gene acts to block the action of the black pigment, so all the dog's pigment which would normally be black, is changed to a chocolate brown color which is called liver in the GSD breed.

Blue is another recessive color dilution gene found in many bloodlines of the GSD. The blue gene acts to turn all the black pigment of the dog to a dark to medium bluish gray color.

Liver is not a dilute color. It changes pigment, but it is not a dilution.

Anything that "lessens" the color black is considered a dilution.

The Liver gene and the blue gene both "dilute" black, but each has a different mechanism for doing so. I used to know how both liver and blue worked but cannot remember the specifics. Anyone?
