I'm purchasing a female 3 year old GSD. Her Great Great Great Grandfather was Yambo Vom Edelwald. Is that a good line?

He is quite a ways back in the pedigree so has little influence on the female. From what I can find, he did not sire any dogs of importance.

I can't find anything past Tobius. I emailed the original breeder but have yet to get a reply. She comes from Tina's Country Shepherds out of Orlando. Not sure if anybody knows about her breeding program. She doesn't have an actual website.

What are your plans for the female you're purchasing?

She has a limited AKC registration. I would like to get her breeding rights, but seeing as this is my first purebred GSD, I do not plan on breeding her. She will be a family dog. I would just like to know if I'm getting a good dog.

Well, the good thing about her being 3 years old is that you don't really have to study her bloodlines to figure out if she'll be a good dog. You have the dog in front of you. See if you can leave a deposit with them and take her home for a week or two for a trial. If she's your first purebred GSD I agree with you about not breeding her, and the only thing you'd need full "breeding" registration for would be if you were planning to breed or show in the show ring.

I just want to make sure I'm getting what I'm paying for. She sounds like an awesome dog from what the owner says. I'm getting a great deal on her if shes from a really good line. I'm really just curious. I've always loved the breed and have had mixed breeds before but never a full blooded. I'm anxious to get her home and work with her.

If you are not breeding her then wanting breeding rights is moot. So is AKC registration assuming that she will be spayed.
My dog has several Grand Victors in her background but that counts for nothing since she is spayed. Last edited by PaddyD; 01-24-2012 at 09:22 PM. |
