Default Help please bloodlines

I am looking for a working line pup and trying to find a breeder. I contact breeders and its the same store. (talk about how great the bloodline is and how the dogs have the best drives and good nerves.) When I look into the bloodlines they have many dogs with sch3 etc. How can one tell what bloodline is right for them or is good one.

What are your plans for the dog and what part of the country are you in? By the way, welcome to the board!

Well, if schutzhund was something that was important to me, I'd go out to a club you're looking to join and meet the dogs. Watch how the dogs work first hand.

Talk to the people who's dogs you like and see where they came from. That would be the way I'd go about finding a dog and breeder.

Another way is research breeders and go based on reputation. There's plenty of breeder talk around here that you'll find if you look.

Starting a job as dog trainer and looking for my demo dog. We will learn together and work together everyday. Also the company pushes us to be active in some type of sport. (weather its dock dog, AKC ob. or even sch) I have a family member that is active in sch but he is a malinois guy.

I am in ohio

How do you know what bloodlines are right for you? Hard to tell at first. For me it has been like trying to learn a new language. It takes time to get to know the different lines and what they bring to the dog. Like others have mentioned, go see some dogs working and make a mental note of what you like and don't like in what you see. Ask lots of questions to people who own the dogs you are seeing and go home and research their pedigrees. You will start to form your own opinion of what you like. Take your time and have fun with it.

The others are correct. Don't rush the decision. I think I visited the local Schutzhund club for close to 6 months before I got a pup. During that time one of the "greybeards" stood beside the field with me while all the others were training. He told me what was happening, why they were doing it, why certain dogs reacted in different ways, etc.

During that time, I was doing what you are doing now, looking for a breeder, but taking it slow really helped and I was able to be very picky. I really liked it when I found a breeder that asked tons more questions of me than I asked of them. To me that meant that they cared where they were sending a puppy, not just trying to make a sale. I think I spent close to 6 hours total on the phone with the breeder I got my dog from before they even decided to sell me a dog in the first place. But, by then they had a really good idea who I was and what I wanted to do with my dog and they sent the perfect one my way. The rest is history, as they say...
