Hello. My name is Robert, and I am new to the Sheps, but not dogs or breedings. I was really interested in the level of intelligence the breed carries, and also wanted to shoot for something that could be "working stock". Protection, Shutzund athlete, obedience, rally, search & rescue, etc... In other words, and not knocking anyone, but I didn't want a $225 CKC craigslist special, nor did I plan to just have a large lay around house dog. I don't like the show looking confirmation sheps, because it seems the "slope back" is the what catches a judges eye for what ever reason? I wanted something from a line or parentage, with good-excellent hips & elbows. I also didn't want to fund a puppy mill, or someone who lives off of breeding dogs. Not to say the price sets the quality, but I wanted to purchase from a good breeder, who was active, in my very interest with these dogs. In short, I found a nice litter, and a breeder not far from me with what seemed to be quality pups to me. The dam being a west German line, her ped from Europe, solid Schutzund 3 & Sieger CH title. Her grandsire was the #1 dog in Germany. This is her sire:
Grappo vom Haus Glitzernstern - German Shepherd Dog The registration number of her dam is, DL90303901, and I will try to get a complete ped together soon. This sire of this litter is a Czech male, Fionn De Tir Na Nog, and currently holds 5 obedience titles. I wasn't able to find a ped for him, but I will be getting one soon from the ACK so I will try to post one. What are some things I can expect from line of dog? (From the little I was able to supply). Decent stuff? Thanks in advance. |

The dam is also stage two pretection level trained. What can i expect from each side, German/Czech? With him being basically a 50/50 dog, what sort of female should I look for in the far future? German influenced or heavy Czech? I enjoy all of the activities, but I think I want overall good protection dogs.

The dam has an SchHII, which means that she reached the second level in tracking, obedience, and protection. Schutzhund is a sport involving all 3 phases and while it's not exactly personal protection training, it's a good way to prove nerve, trainability, and intelligence in breeding dogs.
I don't know much about West German Working Lines, which is what the dam is, but a lot of this forum do know about hit so hopefully someone else can comment. She seems like a nice dog. It's interesting that Fionn isn't on the pedigree database. As far as looking for a female far in the future, for the time being just train your dog. As my biology teacher used to say, "Sperm is cheap; eggs are expensive." What that means in practical terms as far as dogs is that so-so females can get bred to good males, good females can get bred to excellent males, and excellent females can have anyone. If you want to breed, buy the best quality female you can find, train and title her and then breed her to a stellar stud dog. There's a reason most breeders don't start out with a male.

This dog (Grappo) is line bred on Mink and a grandson of Nick H. I love seeing Nick H. close up in a pedigree. He usually prodeces very tough dogs.

Just on paper, I'm thinking OP's dog looks like a lot of dog. You'll need to find him a job for sure! This is not a walk-once-a-day and take an obedience class at PetSmart kind of dog.

I appreciate the replies. I will call the breeder, and try to get some of Fionn's ancestor's names. I'm sure some are already online. Once I recieve Reno's pedigree, I will make one for him online. I am planning to start him in obedience in a couple of weeks, and then on to other jobs as well.

Info from the breeder on this handsome guy. He is the sire.
Fionn De Tir Na Nog. Magnificent Czech male the result of impeccable Czech Border Patrol breeding standards. He is extremely sweet, very intelligent and a joy to work with. He currently holds five Obedience Titles and will go all the way! He has a marvelous disposition and a willingness to work in partnership with his handler that resulted in Five Obedience titles by the age of Two. Fionn De Tir Na Nog CGC RN RA RE CD ![]()
