I'm interested in getting opinions on this pedigree. Sorry, I'm not reporting it right, but I tried to enter it on the pedigree site but I must not be typing it correctly. We bought our last puppy from this same breeder and we really trust her so we're going back and we're on the list for this new litter. Very excited to get a look at our new puppy soon. I was just interested in what you all thought about the line.
Current Litter Thanks so much, Mark |

Here is the extended pedigree from pedigree database:
Mating test - German Shepherd Dog I am not a pedigree expert, but it seems like a fairly solid working pedigree to me. German show/working lines, I assume? Are you planning on working the dog, or is it just for companionship?

It is a German Show Line pedigree. Other than that, others that know the lines better will have to weigh in.

I love Duras. The Holtkamper lines are usually very nice and I love the dogs they produce.
I have looked into Duras previously for a potential puppy out of . I looked into what he has been producing. I was definitely pleased. what are you looking to do with this potential puppy? Big show dog? Competition dog? Companion dog? Depending on what you want will weigh in on whether this litter will fit your needs. I don't know as much about the Dam's lines, but I can say I love and have loved that sires lines. He has a lot of the dogs in his pedigree that are traced back on a lot of really nice working showlines. I have a female with similar lines as Duras. I LOVE everything about her working ability so far. Definitely lines I personally like.

Thank you all for the comments. The dog will be primarily for companionship. It sounds like he would have the flexibility to do much more if we're so inclined.
Would you say this line may be less "high drive" since it's not classic Working Line? We're looking for great temperament, courage, protection and easily trainable. I guess I just described the GSD! LOL! Thanks. |

It is definitely west German show lines.
Have some good conversations with the breeder and ask them what their priorities are and how they assess their success in attaining them. Is easy trainability something they look for? Do the parents have this feature, how was this discovered -- did they, do they actually work the dogs in something ? Many show line breeders buy titled stock or send their dogs away to be worked and titled by someone else so never get a feel for the dog or how much effort or skill goes into getting a result. Are the dogs stable or excitable , good coping skills , adapt well, no issues . There are things not tested on the schutzhund field . Examples, does the dog stress easily? Is the dog sensitive to thunder ? Is the dog social in that it is tolerant or does the dog avoid or repell social contact . Does the dog have classic breed specific characteristics . Ask the breeder . Carmen Carmspack Working German Shepherd Dogs |

I've had 3 of her dogs and the current dog I'm working with is because of the mother you are looking at. Loved the attitude and drive. They have all had plenty of drive but no signs of hyperness. They are just willing to do anything I ask and keep going but have very nice house manners. The one thing I really liked with all of them was how willing they were/are to work for me.

Great to hear another Valkyre dog owner! We love working with Becky. I know she feels very strongly about her Ella. Around these Northern California parts, Becky is somewhat of a legend with quality GSDs. I just didn't know too well how to interpret the pedigree info of the lines. Trying to learn though! Thanks!

So, is it correct to assume that a VA3 means the dog came in third place out of the "excellent" category? Then what's the difference between just VA and VA1?
Also, what in this pedigree points to Show vs. Working?? Thanks, Mark |

VA1 would be the Sieger, the winner. If it just states VA then it means the dogs has earned a VA at one of the Sieger shows. For your last question: Names and the priorities of the breeder.
